Hello everyone who follows 2008 Beijing Olympics,

Are you excited about the summer Olympics as much as I am?
I just wanted to brag a little and let you all know, that 1st gold medal goes to the shooter Katerina Emmons of the Czech Republic. :olympic:

I'm really proud that my countrywoman was able to harvest gold that soon.

I also hope that the United States wins the most medals since I live here and my wife is an American.
I think that Chinese athletes will be a strong rival to the USA because they are very disciplined by nature and during this time they are extremely motivated by pride since they are hosting the games.
The Russians and Canada will be closely behind them in my opinion.

What do you think?

Congratulations to the Czech Republic on their victory!
I enjoy watching the Olympics because it is shows sports that you don't normally get to see here. My big complaint though is that in America they tend to only show the events that we are competing in and ignore the other events, or at the most they give you a brief update. I like the gymnastics and greco-roman style wrestling... and diving. I havn't kept up much with who's who this season and so I don't have an opinion on who will do the best, but I support the U.S. and the U.K., my two homes :olympic:

Congratulations to Katerina Emmons. I'm sure her countrymen are proud of her.

Did anyone watch the opening ceremonies? I thought the Chinese did a superb job! The drum and light show was awesome. The story of the little boy who walked with Yao (a favorite athlete of mine) brought me to tears.

I do like the Olympics. I know what you mean about the coverage of just rating getters that leave some good sports being ignored, but nonetheless I do like to watch them.

i love the olympics, i do so hope england win a medal ,i didnt see opening show i would have love to but :) flashing lights make me fit

I'm enjoying these Olympics; I usually enjoy them all. That opening ceremony was breathtaking! The torchlighting was spectacular. :D I missed the b-ball game but that's ok since I was a church. ;-)

That Michael Phelps commercial is a real hoot. ... and he's got such a competitive spirit. What a great win for the men's relay yesterday! I'm anxious to see how some of the vets do in swimming and diving, particularly Dara Torres and Laura Wilkinson. Data is 41; I'm 51 but I feel 61 going on 71 compared to her. LOL Man, she was just under 18 during the LA Olympics and now she is in her 5th. Olympics! :o Coooool... 8-)

I remember watching Laura in Sydney in 2000 as she won gold in diving. As she started her post dive interview, the VERY first words that came out of her mouth were:

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13 (MKJV)

Now that is VERY coooo!

Ohhh, I'm happy they found Kerri's wedding ring. :D Now, can someone tell me what that is she has on her shoulder??? :smt017

I watched the swimming relay as well. I was at mom and dad's playing night nurse, and had to be very quiet, but I was up and jumping, just jumping very quietly. (It can be done, I just hadn't realized it until now.) Phelps really is phenomenal and I do hope he gains the record for most medals.

And kudos to the men's gymnastics team for their bronze last night. Normally bronze doesn't garner that much excitement but since the team was relying heavily on alternates who had no idea that they would really be competing in the Olympics, they did a wonderful job!

I am getting so frustrated with the TV coverage. Maybe it's just here, I don't know, but they don't seem to be showing anything but volley ball, swimming, and gymnastics. And when they show an event they constantly jump around to the other events unless it is an American competing. Arrrgggh! :x

Coverage is spread out over some eight or nine TV channels, plus whatever one could watch over the Web. Of course, broadcast TV is going to show the sports that get the highest ratings. Sports like swimming, diving, gymnastics, volleyball, track and field are going to get the most TV time. I would imagine with the increased amount of airtime available on the weekends, we will be also seeing some b-ball and tennis.

Cable, FioS and satellite will have a more diverse schedule. NBC says this:

Watch over 1,400 hours of television and 2,000 hours of online coverage (Schedule subject to change)

For instance, right now, the woman's basketball game is on now, online.

oh yesssssss England done well we have some gold bronze and silver :D :D :D :D expect some more but well done us

YES! Finally, we Americans get to hear our National Anthem after a gymnastic event. :-D

Congratulations to Nastia and Shawn, gold and silver. :olympic:

With Michael getting all the attention for all he has done and his quest for the gold record, lets not forget what California's gold girl, Natalie Coughlin has done. She already has a gold ,silver and three bronze medals and 10 Olympic medals career-wise. Plus a few world records of her own. Nice.

Oh, got to acknowledge my home state; congrats to Rebecca Soni for her gold medal, world record breaking upset! LOL, she also won a silver medal in an event she didn't even qualify for during the US Olympic trials. :-)

Michael Phelps Will get a $1 million bonus from Speedo if he gets his seventh medal tomorrow.

Roger Federer lost his match to James Blake! I can't believe it. :o That's ok, the US Open is just a couple of weeks away Roger. ;-)

Congratulations to Michael Phelps! Really remarkable.

Go Michael! :D

Dara came in second in her 50m freestyle by 1 1/100 of a second! Did you hear what she said during her interview?

"Maybe I shouldn't have files my nails last night."

Well at least she finally medaled in an individual race. ;-)

Natalie got her 11th. Olympic medal and her sixth this year. The latter a records for womans swimming. :-)

The Olympics Committee decided to not have Woman's Softball back in 2012. :( Can we help it if no one can score against our team? :-D

Ooooooh, a possible turning point in woman's gymnastics. The IOC is looking into the allegations that three of China's ladies are under the qualifying age of 16. If that turns out to be true, the US would take gold in the Team overall and Nastia would get the Gold medal for her uneven bars routine, the one in which she "lost" in a tie breaker. 8-)

Beach volleyball is back! Has anyone plated volleyball in the sand? Now that's a workout. The US swept beach volleyball, with the guys winning in three sets today. :D Man, yesterday, Kerri and Misty made it look SO easy... in the rain, no less! They remain undefeated in over a year :o and defend their 2004 Olympic title.

The women won gold in soccer! Cool. 8-) Unfortunately, the US softball team didn't do as well. :-?

I was upset by the Women's Water polo result, but Silver isn't too bad. I hope those gals do come away with some more gold, they did really well.
