Does the bible promise us equality with Christ when we make it to heaven? I have heard many say and claim this. We will rule over angels and also be equal with Christ. Not just from a single source - I have heard this from several sources.

Im trying to find the verses that have been misinterpreted

Dear Brother Classik, it depends on whether we are part of the bride of Christ as a joint-heirs, versus one that comes out of tribulation such as the Great multitude that becomes servants in God’s temple. Rev 7:15.

Rom 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and JOINT-HEIRS WITH CHRIST; IF SO BE that we suffer (Endure) with him, that we may be also glorified together.

2 Tim 2:12 If we suffer (Endure), we shall also reign with him: . .

I believe this teaching is based on this passage...

"24 then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power. 25 For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy that will be abolished is death. 27 For HE HAS PUT ALL THINGS IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET. But when He says, "All things are put in subjection," it is evident that He is excepted who put all things in subjection to Him. 28 When all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, so that God may be all in all. " (1 Corinthians 15:24-28 NASB capitals in original)

The thinking is that Christ will surrender up his divinity and become like the rest of us.

I personally believe 'ruling with Christ' means we will have dominion over our bodies just as he has dominion over his body. We will all return to the condition God intended for mankind, which is for man to have control and authority over his body and all created things, not be in slavery to created things and be in obedience to them. So, in that sense, Christ will be like us, and we will be like Christ. Co-heirs of the promise of righteousness.

Jesus is our King. We will obey his every command without question.

But is that ruling with him, or just being ruled by him?

All creation will be ruled by Jesus.

Jesus will appoint some trusted people to rule over others, under His guidance. An example, the 12 apostles will rule the 12 tribes of Israel. The 12 will be ruled by Jesus, and administer the tribes in accordance with Jesus's guidelines.
