Gal 4:

28Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.

This is a great verse and a testimony to the fact that that believeing the gospel of Jesus christ is because of Gods ability and promise..

The believer in christ is made manifest to be a child of promise.. A child of promise is one who has been declared to be born by God..

God declared or promised abraham a son in their old age..

gen 18:
10And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.

14Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son

gen 21:

2For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.

God brought about His word, the birth of isaac was according to Gods promise..

Isaach was to be heir..he was an heir of promise..This was a eternal spiritual promise too..

heb 11:

8By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

9By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:
10For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
11Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.
12Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.
13These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
14For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.
15And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. 16But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

Now, God promised Isaach as an heir to this great promise..

Question, was isaach a believer in christ or the gospel ? Sure He was..next question, did God foresee that isaach was going to believe the gospel, then decided to make him a heir ? No, none sense..God simply said thou shalt have a son to be heir..

Was Isaach born a depraved man ? sure, all men are born as david says ps 51:
5Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Does being born in sin and a sinner nullify or makes Iffy, the fact that an spiritual heir may not recieve the blessings of eternal salvation ? Nope..none at all..

In fact, being an heir guarentees a newbirth in time..it did for Isaach and for all heirs of promise..

When God promised abraham he would be father of many nations, he did the same as when he promised him Isaach..Now, Just as God made a believer out of Isaach, so He does for all the children of promise..

abraham believed the gospel..

gal 3:

8And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. 9So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.

God was telling abe in essence, he would be the spiritual father of many many Isaacs, throughout the world..all of which, would be born according to Gods promise..

So therefore, believers, believe and manifest themselves as children of promise, because of Gods abilty and word..

The Heirs of Promise ! -

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Heb 6:

17Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:

18That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:

In His being a type of Christ, Abraham was promised a seed that would be inclusive of the whole world, or every nation gen 17:

5Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.

The Father of many nations God had made Him, is another way of saying He was an Heir of the world as written in rom 4:

13For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

And so all Abraham's children or seed of many nations [ gen 17:5] are together heirs of promise, of which heb 6:17 is speaking of..

Notice what God says regarding Abraham's seed He just promised him in gen 17 5..He says this in vs 7

7And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.

God here promises to establish His Covenant [ the everlasting covenant ] with Abraham and His seed [ in all nations] in their generations, that is whatever time in world history they may be..

Thats why God said He will shew the heirs of Promise the immutability of His counsel..

After Abraham, the most immediate heir was Isaac and then Jacob..for they were heirs of the same promise or covenant, the everlasting covenant..heb 11:

9By faith he[Abraham] sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

God revealed His Covenant to them as He did their Father Abraham, Just as God said He would do..

Gen 17:19

And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.

See How God said He would establish His covenant with Isaac ! This was before Isaac was born, so this lets us know, that Isaac would be a future believer in Jesus Christ, because He was born according to promise, and all believers in Christ are as Isaac was, children of promise gal 4:

28Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.

Paul is speaking to both jew and gentile believers in Galatia..
