there must be a way to add novel traits.

Mutation and natural selection. That's how it's observed to work. But there's very little chance of something popping up out of nowhere. It's (almost) always a modification of something already there. Would you like some examples?

However, all observed mechanisms, including beneficial mutations, do just the opposite — they cause the loss of or slight variation in pre-existing traits.

No, that's wrong. At one time, it appeared that almost all beneficial mutation were by gene duplication, followed by mutation. But it turns out, that many new genes appear de novo from modification of non-coding DNA.

Its possible. Adam and eve had all the races in them. They were the perfect human beings, which means they werent committing sins and they were not just white or black, but they had everything, and even could walk around naked, proving that their minds were totally pure, i would say pure is a little kid until that great and awful day.
