Prosperity Preaching: Deceitful and Deadly

http://www.crosswalk.com/pastors/11531324/

I have to say I found the first, though it makes many good Biblical points, a bit unbalanced & unfair, having seen much on Christian TV in the past 16 months that underline 2 Corinthians 8-9, & many Proverbs, & emphasise supporting the work of the gospel, & not seen any that encourage greed & selfishness

But I've only had time to read the 1st 2/3 & must go soon, so I'll link them all for you, to get the balance of all 6, OK?

Timely encouragement to 'pray for those whom God has set in authority over us'

http://www.christianforums.net/viewtopi ... 615#325615

I didn't have time on Monday to link to a parallel thread whose latest post in particular is most moving

http://www.christianforums.net/viewtopic.php?t=28051

Folk who've known me for the past decade know that I've often said that I don't want a flashy house, as it only draws burglars; I don't want flashy clothes, as they only draw muggers & I don't want a flashy car as it only draws thieves & vandals

In fact, having lived in 2/3 towns where most houses are quite old, I've often said it may be best stewardship to rent, to avoid huge repairs & maintenance bills

& living in an area well served by public transport, I've often shared with folk that weekly tickets are a fraction of the cost of running even an economical car, as well as great opportunities to get talking to folk in the friendly NW UK - I haven't driven for @ a decade

MAXIMISING FRUITFULNESS

I nearly made a new thread of this ace article, but it really fits OP title-

Relentless Pursuit

Mark Buchanan examines the fruit of spiritual disciplines

Mark Buchanan, pastor of New Life Community Baptist Church in Duncan, British Columbia, has written five books on Christian spirituality. Buchanan's latest is Hidden in Plain Sight (W Publishing Group, 2007). Stan Guthrie, CT's senior associate editor, interviewed him

Why this new book?

Plain Sight is based on that passage in 2 Peter, chapter 1, where Peter says if you add to your faith goodness and knowledge and self-controlâ€â€he lists seven virtuesâ€â€you will have this amazing Christian life.

If you possess the seven virtues in increasing measure, it "will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive."

Being ineffective means you're making no difference, having no impact, leaving nothing behind. Being unproductive means you're bearing no fruit, producing no results.

So the opposite is true: If I am growing in these seven virtues, I will also grow in the reach and depth of my impact, and the abundance of my fruit...
