Bible Study Bible Translations

There are so many translations of the Bible, do you recommend one over the other. Part of me likes the poetry of the Kings James version but I understand more from translations like The Message. Can I trust all the versions or is one better then the other? Thanks. I look forward to doing Bible study again. I was a Quaker for ten years and every Wednesday night we had a "School for Prophets," where we would discuss the topic of the next sermon. I love Bible study but they usually ask me to leave when I start talking about my liberal views. Are there any restrictions on that in this forum. Thanks. ❤

Personally I like an use the KJV and sometimes The Jerusalem Bible. I find the KJV very easy to read and understand. IMO some of the newer translations try to make the Bible easier to read, which is fine, but seems to me to take away from the deeper understanding that I seek by reading the KJV. Other translations just don't seem to challenge me to dig deeper for understanding and wisdom the Holy Spirit gives me like the KJV does, but that's just me.

You can talk about your liberal views as we are adults and can discuss them as long as everyone keeps the unity of love and not judge others for what they believe. As long as we keep in the guidelines of the ToS we will be fine and maybe learn something new.
