Bible Study bible you grew up with

Just wondering what versions of the Scriptures that you grew up with?
I have a teen study bible that was no longer in print, I had to buy a used one it of B&N

A lot of my scripture knowledge is from that Version. I read that Bible A LOT when I was a teen.
I've been reading the Bible for quite a while that is an Amplified version, and it is in depth but I just feel so attached to that teen study Bible.

I've been doing Bible Studys and tried using AMP verses but they are too amplified. The simple, precise words of the Study Bible make it easier to remember when memorizing. I am so happy I found the Bible of my youth. It means a lot. :)

The first bible that was stuck into my hand and that I grew up with was the KJV bible. Consequently I became used to the language and find it colorful and not confusing at all. I like it. I've read many different versions of the bible but always return to the KJV.

A few years back, a brother of mine gave me a new leather bound NIV bible. We did quite a bit of study together and he wanted us to have the same version. I heard from another brother that the NIV bible has missing verses in it, so it fell into disuse for awhile and sat on the shelf while I read the KJV.

Then one day, we got into a conversation here on the forum about the missing verses in the NIV. I commented on it and was asked to provide some of these missing verses for the Brothers and Sisters perusal, so I said ok and looked some of them up...or tried to. All the "missing verses" that I looked up were in there...? So I looked up my brothers number and called him to ask what were these missing verses. He gave them to me and I looked them up and they were there in the bible. So I flipped the bible closed to look at the edging and saw very plainly that it was a NKJV bible. What the??

Now my head was whirling because I knew that this bible was an NIV when it was given to me. I double checked with my brothers and sure enough, the one brother which gave me the bible remembered that it was a NIV, and the other brother remembered us looking up the missing verses in it one evening when he was here. So I had two witnesses that would attest to the fact that this bible was in fact an NIV when I first had it.

So I had to conclude that this bible of mine had to be changed in a divine way for me to become a NKJV version and my original NIV was gone.

There is no mistake. This used to be a NIV. I have no other similar bibles which I could have mistaken it for a NKJV. It is my biggest bible, newest bible, and so there could be no mistake. It even still had my underlines and highlighted verses in it, notes in the margin and so forth. The Lord had to change my bible version for me. This was an endorsement of the NKJV to me. I've never heard of such a thing happening to anyone before but it was clear that this indeed did take place.

Believe it or not, this happened and there are witnesses to the same. True story.
So I like the NKJV now too, lol. Many times when reading on BibleGateway.com I will add the NKJV as a parallel to read also, and I read the hardcopy when the internet is down sometimes. My KJV bibles are showing their age and have some loose pages from use, and the NKJV has bigger print in it too.

I grew up with NIV 1984 and I still like it, but I now use the ESV for a more literal translation. My church now uses the HCSB which tries to find a balance between the two. Not a fan personally as the wording is quite strange and at times convoluted. Oh well. We're blessed to have so many translation :)

KJV.
My mom started attending a KJV-only church when I was about four...or five. Somewhere around there. My stepdad, who came into our lives a few years later, was very KJV-only as well, and taught Bible studies at our church and at home during family altar. So I grew up reading the KJV and have no trouble with the archaic language because of that and my dad's teaching.

I'm not KJV-only anymore, but I still own the KJV Bible I was given by someone at our church. I also own an ESV now. I still live with my family, and anytime there is Scripture reading I make sure the use the KJV because they're still KJV-only.

I happened to pick up a 1981 Oxford KJV brand new and still use it, though it is quite fragile and marked up ready to dissolve lol. I've read it so many times that I've memorized it :) So then when I began using the American Standard Version and Young's Literal Translation versions, for years I had to start in the old KJV to find what I was looking for, then go to the other's for the various renderings of greater accuracy. Then I learned Greek studies, then the computer came out and made everything so easy... it's been a thrilling ride :)

You sound like me, except I did not have a bible until my high school graduation party when someone gave it to me this as a gift. I was Catholic and never had a bible for myself. I only saw the Roman missals we used on Sunday. This is the same bible I have had for twenty years and I've tried to switch to something new and I can't.
