That is the easiest way of explaining it, because it is VERY complex.
That aside, I find it to be one of the most fascinating subjects I'm studying right now. Linguistics, culture and religious views can all change/alter how a verse is perceived. This type of course is NOT for everyone; in fact, most should probably shy away from it unless they are pursuing a MA in Theology/Divinity. It definitely takes an open mind to fully absorb the material.
