Birthday cake for Jesus??

Do any of you know where the tradition of making a cake for Jesus and having a birthday party came from? I never heard of it until a couple of years ago when my father (a pastor) moved to his current church. I certainly never heard of this in England. My parent's church holds a birthday party for Jesus every year with the children, and they have a cake and Santa comes (which I don't agree with having him come to church but that's another topic) and reads them a Christmas story... Where did this idea come from?

I have never heard that til yesterday. My daughter(5yr old Hannah) asked me if we could make a birthday cake for Jesus!! I was excited to hear her suggest that. She is such a blessing! :)

I started seeing this in the '70's. I think it's kind of a home-grown tradition with that started in some Christian families and just kind of spread. As Brian's little Hannah shows, some of these ideas crop up spontaneously. Hey, since birthday cakes are part of our tradition and since Christmas is the time we celebrate the birth of Christ, a lot of the smarter kids put 1 + 1 together and voila, a new tradition is born!

Also, could this have started in the churches out of protest of the commercialization of Christmas? I.e. trying to get the kids to focus back on the supposed true meaning.

Do not truly know, but truly like the idea. A simple gesture from the heart speaks volumes more than any earthly treasure or amount of wealth ever could.
