BLACK FRIDAY

Thanksgiving. The day that Americans are supposed to give thanks to God for the blessings that America has to offer. A time to remember the hardship that the pilgrims endured in their quest for religious freedom.

In more recent years, it seems as if modern Americans believe that the day is all about turkey and football. Now it is followed by what may soon become a holiday all on its own.

BLACK FRIDAY

The day that retailers believe that they will go out of the red and into the black for the year. As more and more focus has been given to the day over the years, retailers have gone from opening an hour early, to opening at 6:00 a.m., and now 5:00 a.m. One local Outlet Mall opened at midnight.

I don't participate, for a variety of reasons. I was just wondering what everyone else thought about Black Friday.

The wife and I don't really shop on any specific day. Besides, we like to relax at home after a holiday. We'll do our shopping later.

I hate crowds, so no I did not go shopping on Friday. If it was up to me, and it isn't, I would do my shopping in October or something to avoid crowds.
(My husband watches football all day every Thanksgiving, but I don't like football, so I read in between the cooking I do  )

I went one year. I was patiently waiting on someone to pull out of a parking space. I made sure there was room for cars to go around me since the people were taking their time pulling out (there was literally NOWHERE else to park in the entire parking lot). I'm sitting there staying calm when this car comes flying down the isle towards me and it's an elderly lady driving. She rolls down her window and starts screaming at me "IT'S MINE!!! IT'S MY PARKING SPACE!!! I'M GETTING IT! GET OUT OF MY WAY!!!". I lean out my window and calmly tell her "Maam, I've been sitting here patiently waiting in it for a couple minutes". The lady then starts cussing me out. I was SHOCKED and thinking What a freak!!!!

The people pulling out heard what was going on and they pulled out in a way that the elderly lady couldn't pull in before me. When I pulled in and got out, she was still screaming at me and flipping me off.

People are CRAZY that day. :o

I worked this year...and was glad to.

I was visiting my sister in NC during that time and couldn't believe what I saw on TV and the paper. There were some 8,000 people waiting outside Best Buy and over 10,000 at one of the malls. It was like when they release the bulls in spain!! People running, shoving, snatching boxes from others and fights broke out!! Completely stupid. Wouldn't have gotten me in a place like that if they were giving away plasma TV's.

I can see the front door of a major retail outlet from my apartment. :o What a circus!
There is also a Best Buy and a Circuit City around the corner from here. They had tents set up on the sidewalks in front of both of these stores last week.

I go almost every year because of the great electronic deals...this year I got:

Me and my husband had a good discussion on this issue... We do not like to support gays however we did go shopping... We wouldnt have went had it not been for us not having much money to buy our children gifts this year.. We really wanted the remote control hummer which is why we went.... Had it not been for that we wouldnt have went at all.... My hubby hates big crowds too...

I'm blonde, so maybe that's why I'm having a hard time understanding your comment, but what does this topic have to do with gays?

:-?

Um, did I miss something? What's with the "we do not like to support gays" bit? I really don't see what that has to do with anything

But, on the whole shopping thing? Yeah, I went. Once. Three years ago. I will NEVER go again. I don't even care if I got a flat screen tv for 30 bucks, the fact that I had to fight crowds, my temper, and other people literally trying to steal the tv out of the cart, well, I just don't think I want to go thru that again!!

well there was a boycott this year that all christians shouldnt shop at wal mart because they support gays on thier website now...if you click on a certain link or something like that the gay organization they work with gets some of the proceeds...here is a littl nees clip about it...sorry for the confusion...lol

You build your own computers, too I see! Cool! Watch those mem sticks though. I have one of the Sandisk sticks and I suspect it damged two of our motherboards (we have 4 online computers and one stand-alone). One this computer upstairs used to shut the computer down when I plugged it in. At first I blamed it on ESD, but then one day my computer would not boot (did not complete the POST and the HD light just stayed lit.) I replaced the MOBO and it was good, but then the stick caused the new one to freeze. I noticed that when I used the stick downstairs on our family computer, the sound would chime as if I was plugging and unplugging it in the USB. Long story short, that computer started acting like mine once did and I ended up replacing that MOBO, too. So I stopped using that stick. I'm sure it's just a fluke, because I otherwise like the Sandisk sticks. I have another one to use yet.

Feels good when we don't let stuff like that stop us, though. We just get more parts! :-D
