If you collect headlines for a year and then compare it to thirty years ago, it quickly becomes obvious that things are getting worse. Throughout the Bible God kept a keen eye on Israel. Whenever they turned away from Him He would remove His hand of protection until they turned to Him.
It seems to me that this is what has been happening lately and it started with 9/11. Shortly afterward, there was a large drawing to the churches but when nothing else bad happened, people quickly stopped worrying about terrorists and resumed their lives. This worries me greatly. If we so quickly turn our back on God after He restores the peace, then how bad does it really have to get before we keep our attention on him?
We're headed for disaster, but I don't believe God would allow the entire U.S. to be destroyed as long as there are Christians there that serve Him but if our country keeps removing God from every plaque and procedure then I wouldn't blame Him for leaving us to the wrath of worldly evils that we've been sheltered from for so long.
Psalm 91:1-8 (NIV)
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust."
Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.
What are your thoughts on this?
