It's kind of funny when you are reading proverbs and out of no where he will say something like, there is nothing worse than a nagging wife. I can picture Solomon writing down some proverbs and one of his seven hundred wives interrupting him with some problems.

When it comes to nagging wives, few people could have known more about it than King Solomon. What I find surprising is that he didn't figure it out until he had a total of 1000 wives and concubines.

I think Solomon get's a bad rap sometimes when we think he was a philanderer. It's possible his many marriages were political in attempt to gain favour with the surrounding nations and there's a hint in Proverbs,Songs and Ecclesiastes that he had one true love who was possibly Naamah. She was the mother of his Son Rehoboam and he has only 3 children mentioned in the Bible.

It's interesting how he was led astray and how such a wise man would do this.

He disobeyed God's Law...
Deuteronomy 17 14When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you and have taken possession of it and settled in it, and you say, “Let us set a king over us like all the nations around us,” 15be sure to appoint over you a king the Lord your God chooses. He must be from among your fellow Israelites. Do not place a foreigner over you, one who is not an Israelite.16The king, moreover, must not acquire great numbers of horses for himself or make the people return to Egypt to get more of them, for the Lord has told you, “You are not to go back that way again.” 17He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold.

Read 1 Kings 9 through 1 Kings 11. (I think those are the chapters. He breaks every commandment. He buys horses and chariots from Egypt and sales them to other govenemnts (Arms dealer), he offers his own children to Molech in the fire through his many wives, he makes silver more abundant and common. He builds the temple with slave labor... It's not about assigning Solomon a bad rap, its about knowing that even somebody as wise as solomon can make huge mistakes. On that note, Ecclesiastes was written as a confession...

The "bad rap" I'm talking about is referring to the philanderer tag that many give him. It appears that desire for women wasn't his motive in taking 700 wives ( aside from Naamah ) but you're %100 right about the disobedience and the results of it.

On that note, Ecclesiastes was written as a confession...

Yeah this is interesting and might indicate repentance as well. I hope so I'd like to meet him.

My husband likes this verse in Proverbs..............and heeds the warning!!! :rollingpin

Proverbs 21:9 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.
