Breathe Nikki....breathe....

There is a highway that will be going through our living room and we got the call today that we got approved for the early acquisition and will be moving. I'm freaking out. I'm excited because it's been impossible for us to sell in the past through a realtor (we will also get more with the DOT buying us out early), but at the same time I feel sick because I don't know where to begin. I will know more Friday when they come to tell us how the entire process will go, but from the sounds of it, we may be out of here in as soon as 2 months. That's how long it took for our neighbors that have already been bought out. Two months isn't really a long time when you have to think about moving, is it? We have no clue where we're going to go or how much we'll be able to afford. They are going to set up the appraisal and going by what my neighbors have all gotten for their homes, we have a general idea what we should get.

The DOT will pay for a moving company to pack us up and move us, but there are some things that I don't trust them with. Mainly our family pictures and videos. I'll just box them up and they'll ride in our vehicle with us.

I feel like I'm spinning. The last time we moved, we didn't have a whole lot and didn't have kids. I'm just clueless as to what is going to happen. I know nothing about going through an appraisal (we rented before buying this home). Should my house be completely spotless? What are things that they look at? Since our home is going to be knocked down for a road, I have a feeling that the process will be a bit different. Somebody please hold me.
:o

I wish a highway would come through my living room. I want to move further out in the boonies but we owe too much on where we're at right now.
I would even settle for less living space for more acreage and seclusion.

Congrats Nikki!

I think my emotions went into overdrive this evening. Now when I think of moving, it makes me want to cry. This is the house that our kids have grown up in. This is our FIRST house. This is the house that we bought when we got back together after our separation. This house has so many happy memories....the best memories of my marriage have happened here.

I'm happy, but yet I'm sad. See....I'm crying again. UGH. :crying:

Nikki, I pray the best is yet to come! May God give you peace and comfort and a realization that He is right there with you.

Thanks y'all. I feel silly, but this house has so many good memories.

We WANTED to move (we tried selling in the past, but nobody would buy because of the beltway), but now that it's really going to happen, my feelings have changed. I'm stil happy, but sad at the same time.

Well the wife and I are moving to Jacksonville Florida, it was suppose to be September the 1st, but it looks like it will be in October. But I was born here in Philly but I don't like living here. I hav already started packing. Wish that I had a free moving company.

Lewis, my mother-in-law lives in Jax.
I'm definitely not a city girl but I think as far as big towns go, Jacksonville is at the top of the list.
We always go to orange park mall and pecan park flea market when we go; the zoo is over rated.
Theres lots to do around there.

You have no clue how stressed I've been this week. The DOT lady came out to explain everything to us. An appraiser should be out within a month and then the offer will be presented to us a couple weeks after that.

We also found out that instead of having them move us, we have the option of moving ourselves and they will give us $1800 in cash. We'll do the latter because we won't go too far and we can get a U-Haul and move ourselves for a LOT cheaper than $1800!

Everything is so uncertain right now until we hear that offer. We looked yesterday in different areas in different towns and have no clue where we will move to. The area that I wanted to go to is VERY pricey. I think that area will have to be scratched off the list.

I've been so sick over all the uncertainty that I'm going to end up in the hospital from all the stress!

As of now and if we accept their offer, I'm guessing we'll be moving in November or December. It all just depends on how soon the appraiser can get out here and how fast the ball gets rolling. If we DON'T accept the offer, then we will be here until the end of 2007....that's when they will do the forced buyouts and negotiations. There are reasons that we applied for the early buyout, so I'm hoping that we get a decent offer.

Wow Nikki,

With all that stress, you might want to forget about that $1,800 dollars and pay a company to move you. My wife and I moved 5 years ago and it was pretty stessfull not to mention a lot of work.

Dont' look at the money thinkinng what you can spend it on (like bills or toys). Look at it for what it's for... To get your stuff moved from point A to point B with the least amount of stress

Just a thought

I agree Jeff. Nikki, take the path of least resistance... pay someone to move most your things.

I'm not looking at the money to spend....trust me. Any extra money from that $1800 will go towards the downpayment. Even if it's only a few hundred.

That sounds like a wise move. Also, I'm sure that you have a lot of friends that will help you move. When my wife and I moved, we rented the biggest U-haul they had available and we packed it as tight as it could be. Also, I own a 14 foot trailer that I loaded up twice, along with filling up two other vehicles. Man... it was a lot of work... I still can't believe we have/had that much junk!

Packing, loading, unloading, unpacking, feeding everyone, trying to get the beds set up so we had a place to sleep, trying to keep the kids out of the way so we could get stuff put away.. I mean, we obviously survived it (LOL), but boy, if I could have paid sombody to come in and pack my stuff and move if for me... wow

Anyway, I can't wait to hear about your new place when you finally get moved. You'll have to post some pictures when you finally find your new place! It really sounds kind of exciting!

You know, the more I think about it, I think we'll put any extra money in a savings account. We have no savings account and I hear horror stories of people having to replace their heat pump or other items just a few months after moving into their new home.

I guess we'll decide what to do once that time comes. For right now, we're in the waiting period where we have no clue what all is going to happen. It may be 2 weeks or it may be a month before the appraiser can get out. The DOT is setting all that up. I hate all this not knowing business.

One of the good qualities about our old church was that if anybody needed help moving they would round up some of the men in the church and they would meet up and get the job done.
Is that a thing of the past?
It's really what christian community is about.

Just a 'modest conservative' thought.
Time is short & hopefully we will need to leave the stuff on planet earth next time around. So why not find an acre or two in the country & buy a nice double/wide land home package? You could get all set up here in S.C. for around $75.000. The over sixty/five ones do not even have property taxes on their residence if it is in a modest bracket. :fadein:

In our back yard (of 3 acres) we have wild turkey, deer, rabbits + all kind of birds! One day my wife counted 50 turkey. And deer are around on a near weekly basis.
