Is Buddhism really a religion.
I have a Buddhist monastery near me in the UK, and the monks are very nice and peaceful people,
and they are very popular, but is it really a religion without a God.

Buddhism has Hindu roots Buddha was a Hindu, but yes they don't worship any Gods they instead seek enlightenment. They do have some good teachings and some very helpful stories, but what they lack is the most important thing a relationship with GOD.

i disagree. their false god is siddarth guatama aka buddha. they worship idols, some claim to have superhuman strength and they mutilate themselves and abstain from foods and marriage. clearly the exact oosite of what christ taugtht us.

remember what christ said, there will be those claiming to be the messiah and those who are false teachers. if the buddhists desire peace and enlightenment, they they must take up their cross and follow christ. their is no other way to the father.

Every religion has at least a small shred of Divine Truth in it. The fullness of Divine Truth is in Christianity (somewhere :wink: ). God has revealed His Truth to us through Jesus, His Son. Should we condemn Buddhists for our own failure to evangelize them? God's Truth isn't going to reveal Itself to them, not is It?

huh? i am not sure what you're saying. i agree that with the buddhists, all lies have some truth in it, otherwise how could these false teachers camoflouge the truth?

buddha is their god. they build statues of him, worship it, kiss it and pray to it. quite a number of them sacrifice their lives to promote their ideology, i am convinced that the buddhists worship a pagan god. what or how else could you interpret that?

read acts 4: 12. If anyone doesnt accept christ...they will accursed. there is no shortcut or detour around christ.

and if you read beforehand when peter is ministering to the israelities/jews specifically, he tells them to repent and convert over to christianity. acts 3: 19-20

and if you go to matthew 23: 29, the jews will finally admit that christ is the messiah, sent to them from the lord.

so all other religions or so-called philosophies or ideologies are clearly the works of the devil. christ is the only link to the one and true god, the father. you cannot attain salvation through your own ower, but through the oer of the holy spirit.

the buddhists are taking some of christ's principles and mocking it. they're mocking it by saying that, look, you can follow these christian principles and attain salvation/enlightenmeight w/o accepting christ. and then they go on saying the "force" is what binds us.

clearly the work of satan and his acolytes. buddhists profane the lords name-hardly noble.

SURELY you are not saying that salvation is attainable w/o christ? and if so, then why promote other faiths?

the problem with the jews is that they do not recognize christ as the messiah nor the son nor as being sent from the father. they are clearly stubborn, its in isaiah 53. read it. even the prophet isaiah foretold christs coming into this world, yet the jews still deny christ. and the jews wont see jesus until they finally acknoweledge that he was sent by the father as foretold in matthew ch 23: 39. go read it!

Buddhists worship no one and no thing. Their emphasis is on achieving enlightenment through meditation. Monastaries are simply places where people who wish to deidcate their lives to meditation can do so.

Is it wrong to love the truth, and to correct falsehoods when I see them? Your understanding of Buddhism leaves out many important nuances and utterly fails in compassion. It would seem to me that you are the one who is not acting Christian here. Gandhi once explained his reason for not becoming Christian: "I like your Christ, but I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ." The attitude you take will not convince any thoughtful person. Buddhism, even if it is false, has good intentions. I think that it deserves a certain amount of respect even though it is false.

You say that you are Christian- prove it, then, through your actions.

Of the Buddhists I know personally, none think of Buddhism as a religion, but rather as a philosophy that is a method towards enlightenment. Buddhism may not be centered around God, but most Buddhists that I know of do fully love God.

Like all things, there will be people who will make rituals and ceremonies where there was never a teaching for rituals or ceremonies. Some Buddhists enjoy the ceremonies, but some Buddhists don't. The core ideal within Buddhism is to achieve enlightenment, not much of anything else.

Religion does not have to do anything with God, it's just a set of beliefs about the purpose of the universe. Buddhism is just ridiculous, there is no love of God in it.

Trying to fit eastern square peg religion into western round hole religion is a little silly. Christianity, looked at through many eastern religion contexts would look silly to a person who grew up with that their whole life. Much like how some of think so. That makes it different, not ridiculous.
