Buddhist I spoke with the other day

I work in the pest control field and responded to a call from a customer.

I got there and they had ants in the bathroom.

I sat there and killed a few with my finger and told the woman that Windex (with ammonia) will kill ants and if she sees just a few, just spray them.

Then I saw her husband and told him the same - if you see a few spray with Windex.

He then told me that he refuses to kill ANY life - that includes ants.

I saw he was a Buddhist (sp?) and was wondering how to respond to these statements.

I had already killed some ants, and he pays for "PEST CONTROL" which kills files, ants, roaches, beetles, crickets, scorpions, spiders, and many other pests.

How can he justify paying money for me to kill insects while still thinking it is wrong for him to kill them?

Any comments?

Many Buddhists believe that the souls of man inhabit animals and plants after death as a punishment for karma accounts gone bad.....

It is a form of reincarnation and Buddhists try to respect all life forms...

You are right that it is a contradiction to have YOU kill them though!

I've heard that Indians (India) believe rats to be a reincarnation of their ancestors! If memory serves correctly I believe that's where the Bubonic Plague originated in the 14th Century...KILL "EM!

Tell him you will continue to collect him money, but if he is so against the taking of any life, you two could just sit over a cup of coffee while contemplating the meaning of life. You two could also sit there and watch the ants march through his cabinets while he writes you a check.

How do you know he is a Buddhist? That sounds more like an extreme Jainist to me? Or perhaps an incredibly orthodox Hindu sectarian? Either way, even if he is Buddhist, that represents a very minimal amount of practicing Buddhists.

I don't know for certain what religion he was, but he was obviously not a "white American."

He grew up in another country somewhere in Asia or the Middle East. He didn't speak the best English you know.

Good point.....

Do you always go around making assumptions about others like that? What does skin color have to do with religion?

Theoretically, nothing. In practice, there is quite a high statistical correlation between skin color and religion, at least in the US. Most white and black skinned people are Christian, most arab or asian (brownish yellow or however you want to describe the color) are not. Given no other information about a person that the color of your skin, you could make a guess about their religion and easily be right 9 out of 10 times.

Which is why the majority of people in Heaven will be white, English speaking, Republican voters.....

Take a poll of every soul on earth right now and the majority of Christian Fundamentalists will be of this category.....

You live in a very little box, Soma-Sight. You need to get out more often.

The Geneva Report 2002 revealed that an unprecedented number of Christians now face disinformation, discrimination, and outright persecution worldwide. It detailed specific cases of persecution in India, Greece, Cyprus, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkmenistan, China and Sudan. The Religious Liberty Commission of World Evangelical Alliance presented the findings at the United Nations Commission on Human Rights on April 8, 2002.
-
"We estimate that there are more than 200 million Christians in the world today who do not have full human rights as defined by the UN Declaration of Human Rights, simply because they are Christians. We believe that this is the largest group in the world without full human rights because of their beliefs," states Johan Candelin, director of the WEA Religious Liberty Commission. Candelin delivered the report to the UN Commission on Human Rights at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.

The report addressed several key issues and questions. Key issues included advancing religious freedom at home and mobilizing a constituency in support of international religious liberty.

I agree with Solo on this. Recent research shows that the majority of Christians are outside of North America in places such as South America and Africa.

I didnt think you guys considered Catholics "True" believers?

Protestants are 17% of the world's total Christian population according to The World Christian Encyclopedia. But that does not include the Independents who maybe more Protestant than the Protestants and have a rapidly growing 19% of the total Christian population.

Let me rephrase this....

The MAJORITY of PROTESTANT TRUE BELIEVERS are white, republican, USA born and bred and according to "sound doctrine" will be the majority of souls liberated to Salvation via the blood of the Lamb......

Check this out...........

Graph supporting my premise.... 8-)

:o :o :o :o :o

That has to be one of the most ridiculous attempts to justify a silly claim/premise that I have read for a long time.

Have you travelled at all Soma-Sight? Past the "far East," New York?

Do you understand anything at all about African Christianity? Any idea at all about the denominations and the growth of Christianity in Africa? Any idea at all about the percentage of "whites" in Africa? Any idea at all about the different countries and their history w.r.t. Christianity?

Obviously not!!!

:)

I must second BB's sentiment that this get back on track. Discuss the issues and not eachother. If this turns into a personal attack thread it will just be deleted and possible warnings.

I would rather that not happen so let's deal with the issues only.

Thanks.

Facts are facts Gary.....

The majority of Heaven bound souls are white, conservative, listen to AM radio and reside in the USA.....

Africa is second place and you and I both know that many of these folks in Africa are WHITE missionaries.....
