Building A Theology

Should one ever build a theology on one scripture?

This seems to be a rather obvious question. Maybe you should give us a little background as to why you decided to poll us.

I say no because truth is what comes from Christ not Theology.

Whether we should or shouldn't hasn't stopped people from having done so. The 'secret rapture' and 'tongues' spring to mind. And, once a (false) doctrine is introduced and accepted by people, it would take enough gelignite to move a mountain to shake that belief. In many cases, even that wouldn't work.

Anyone can take one or two verses and use them out of context as a pretext for a prooftext for something the verse was never intended to teach.
