From another site there is a thread given of 'mans' idea of Bible study. Here is my reply. There is a little more freedom on this site perhaps to speak as one wants? I was called a 'bonehead'! :fadein:

Sorry that you have no idea of what you are talking about! Absolutely! The Bible needs [none] of mans foolishness. (you or me!) It is its own hermeneutics.

It is like a puzzle that needs [ALL its pieces from cover to cover] layed aside & then put together to get the [True picture]. 1 Cor. 14:32 finds no contradiction! Study Isaiah 8:20 for [Simple Required Truth!]

It even tell us this, it is required! 2 Timothy 3:16, Matthew 4:4. Yes, one must run indeed, run from front to back hunting all the verses on the same subject! Even with the Rev. 12 verses of many names of the devil being used. And then with these names found throughout the Word, such as 'serpent' whom is identified speaking to Eve in the Garden with his first lie!

But when one does this Gods way? The Truth is all there to convict us if we will OBEY its Eternal Covenant requirement for [[All mankind]]! If not? Read Genesis 6:3

The problem is also told of why there is just your talk! With some others obvious talk who do not believe in God, :crying: and the many misunderstood (ignorant) ones! And yet, of all of these, there are still but very few who are sincere that are honestly seeking Truth! These are the ones who Christ is seeking in Revelation 18:4

--John (altered slightly)

John,

The problem is that if we are not truly seeking Him we will never find Him no matter how much we study. Knowledge is nothing if we are not His true followers.

There are many scholers but only a few true ones, according to Jesus.

Can it be possible for Christians not to know how to study?

Of course, it is possible.

So what methods do people prefer/use most often?

Let's 1st print from OP:-

Isaiah 8:20 (New International Version)

20 To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn.

I just have time to post 2 Timothy 3:16-17

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (New International Version)

16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
17so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

& add that Paul also told Timothy to 'study, to show yourself approved by God, a workman (for Christ) who need not be ashamed'

Yes,

  • 2 Timothy 3:16
16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

However, We must also not forget these sections of Paul's letter to Timothy.

  • 1 Timothy 1:3-6
3 As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,

4 Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.

5 Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

    6 From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;

Some need to learn the fear of the Lord before they can move onward in certain understanding.

  • Proverbs 1:5-7
5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: 6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but
    fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Take for instance the word FEAR,
There are far too many arguments about how to interpret certain individual "words" let alone how to interpret certain scriptures. :-?
Some people refuse to take the true meaning of a word for what it is, and then twist the meaning into something to their own liking. But then.... the argument over who's interpretation is correct .... will it ever cease?
Also, the word ever.... some people just don't get the true meaning of that word and just stretch it out of proportion.

Forums are full of people in disagreement with each other.

Take things with a grain of salt and move on if you can't come to an agreement with someone .

The question is.... how long should we carry on with a person who is in disagreement with you? Most of the times... the debates don't end until a moderator locks the thread.

John here:

How about Matthew 25's Virgin parable then?
Some questions:

1. How many were 'sacked out' fast asleep?

2. What does Virgin compare with? (in verse 1)

Who Awakened them from the 'outside' if they are all sleeping?

3. It said that ALL VIRGINS had 'Oil' in their lamps, how readeth O.S.A.S. with this?

4. And there is a 'shut door' meaning what?

5. And what of earth is the 'MIDNIGHT CRY'? (from outside this Virgin replica of heaven's Zion?)

6. And go out to meet Christ?? Outside of the Virgin yoked membership??

7. Last question. Do you believe this Truth?
