Canadian Preacher is Asking Her Flock to Bring in Cell Phones to Be Blessed

"A Canadian Anglican reverend is asking parishioners to bring in their cellphones and other technological gadgets to receive a special blessing.

Rev. Lisa Vaughn of the Anglican parish of St. Timothy, near Halifax, Nova Scotia, said the gadget blessing is a means of attracting more people to church amid a nationwide decline in attendance, the Globe and Mail reported Thursday." UPI

Christians are deserting churches in Canada and America because religion doesn't have any relevance or meaning in their lives. They witness the spectacle of televangelists hawking prayer clothes and other religious trinkets, and they ask themselves, "Why go to church?"

A cheap gimmick isn't going to inspire the faithful to return to church. I can understand a worship service to bless cats and dogs, but a mobile phone blessing is just making a mockery of religion.

The Rev. Vaughn should leave it to hardnosed commentators to mock the superficiality of the world's major religions. We don't need any help, from the likes of her, to lay bare the silliness of organized religion.

Cell phones and other technological gizmos are the invention of Satan; we are too busy interfacing with these devices to pay attention to our loved ones.

Instead of blessing the evil machines the good reverend should hold a bonfire ceremony and burn them.

I agreed with the article until it started ranting about how technologie is evil. I guess its evil that I have a phone on just in case I get into an accident or need assistance.

Oh well, I prefer being safe.

???

I think the tone of the article is more of a turn off then a pastor coming up with the idea of praying for people and their cell phones. If God is real, why does any blessing hurt? I think it's nice.

I think the real reason why there is a worldwide decline in church attendance is because churches are spending more time doing silly things like making coffee shops out of the Father's house, blessing cell phones and bending over backwards to be "relevant" and much less time equipping the saints to spread the gospel.

If some denominations and ministry teams are so willing to bend every rule in the Book to suit the ever changing morality and socially acceptable notions of the secular world than of course people are leaving the church!

How can we expect people to take us seriously if we are constantly changing our ways in an attempt to bring them in? You need to stick to a single course (and a narrow one ;) ) and follow it 'til Kingdom come.

That old saying about honey and vinegar may be true, but the modern "church" is trying to make the honey out of Splenda, and that just ain't working. If you wanna attract people with honey, then us the honey of the Bible, and not the honey of this world.

And what the heck does it mean to bless a phone? "I bless this Droid in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit"? That's just pathetic... I don't want my phone to go to Heaven, I want to go to Heaven!

The church needs to :readbible. Find a Biblical means to bringing people into the body of Christ, not some stupid shenanigans about blessing phones.
