Over the years that I have been posting in christian forums I have come across many negative claims about Catholicism, some quite crazy.
Here are some quick responses:
  1. Catholics do not worship Mary. We venerate (honour) her as the mother of our Saviour.
  2. Catholics do not communicate with the dead. We ask those alive in heaven to intercede for us.
  3. Catholics do not re-sacrifice Jesus at every Mass. We participate in the one sacrifice of Jesus.
  4. Catholics do not put the “traditions of men” above Scripture. We draw doctrine from apostolic teaching, both written and oral.
  5. Catholics do not believe we are saved by our own works. We believe we are saved by grace through faith.
  6. Catholics do not believe the Pope can do no wrong. We believe that under certain conditions God will not allow him to solemnly define doctrinal error.
  7. The Catholic Church does not ban the reading of the Bible, nor was it ever placed on the “Index of forbidden books”. heretical translations were banned.
  8. Catholics do not fast for 40 days in Lent in remembrance of Tammuz. We fast during the 40 days of Lent following the example of Jesus fasting for 40 days in the desert.
  9. Catholics do not bake “hot cross buns for Mary in most Roman Catholic churches”. Most hot cross buns are baked by Tesco, Asda or Sainsburys for profit.
  10. IHS on some communion wafers and altars does not stand for Isis Horus and Seb (any more that SDA stands for Seb, Diana and Apollo, or American Baptist Convention (ABC) stands for Aphrodite, Bacchus, and Cupid).
The Christogram IHS is a monogram symbolizing Jesus Christ.
From Greek it is an abbreviation of the name ΙΗΣΟΥΣ (Jesus
