In the midst of this central Chinese city, house churches are seeking to walk the way of the cross. Meeting in small groups and living and working within the city, these house church Christians strive to be faithful to the King of Kings. This June, will you join us in praying for the churches in Changsha? |
This Week's Prayer Guide June 1 - This June, we are praying for the central Chinese city of Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province. Pray for the gospel to go deeper and wider among the churches and people of Changsha. June 2 - Many famous Chinese figures come from Hunan Province. One pastor shares that, among those who come from Hunan are: “Zeng Guofan, who suppressed the Taiping Rebellion, and others like Mao Zedong and Zuo Zongtang.” Indeed, Orange Island in Changsha features a giant statue of a young Mao Zedong. The people of Changsha take a lot of pride in the famous people who have come from their province. Pray for people in Changsha to come to know the King of Kings, that they would take pride in knowing Christ and being known by Christ. June 3 - Changsha has historically been a city of learning. Many ancient schools and universities have their seats in Changsha, and the modern city is full of students. Pray for students coming to Changsha to come to know Christ and for churches to have opportunities for student ministry. June 4 - One pastor shares that Changsha is a city of entertainment: “On the east side of the river, life starts at midnight—lights and nightlife go on all night. Changsha is a city of entertainment and consumption.” Pray for the people of Changsha to find the deeper joy and hope of Christ, rather than the fleeting happiness of entertainment and consumption. June 5 - Because of its recent history, one pastor shares that “the revolutionary (leftist) culture is still mainstream” in Changsha. Pray for the kingdom of heaven to be glorified in Changsha, that Christ’s kingdom would be seen as greater than any earthly ideologies. June 6 - There is a great deal of natural beauty in Hunan Province. Praise God for revealing himself in nature, and pray that those who visit Hunan would feel a stirring in their hearts for the Lord. June 7 - Hudson Taylor, the famous missionary to China, died in Changsha in 1905. One pastor in Changsha shares that he found the city to be “hard soil, an iron gate.” Pray for the seeds of the gospel that have been planted in Changsha, that they would take root and bear fruit. |
