Charismatics' Numbers Growing, Influence Spreading

AgapePress reports a new ten-nation survey of Pentecostal and charismatic Christians, considered the fastest-growing stream of Christianity worldwide, shows they are deeply influencing the Roman Catholic and mainstream Protestant churches and are poised to make a big impact on global affairs.

The poll by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life found that "spirit-filled" Christians, who speak in tongues and believe in healing through prayer, comprise at least half the population of Brazil, Guatemala and Kenya, 44 percent of Filipinos and nearly one-fourth of U.S. citizens.

The study also found that charismatic and Pentecostal Christians increasingly are willing to bring their values into public debates, which could shape government policies in the years ahead.

The Pentecostal movement, which began a century ago in Los Angeles, spread quickly overseas because of its adaptability to local cultures and the exuberance of its worship.

golfjack said somewhere that he was Pentacostal/Charismatic. Perhaps he can comment on some of this "mania". I hope he's not affiliated with that TBN bunch.

I don't like to be called a false anything, especially a false teacher or preacher. That offends me.

You know, have you ever been to a Benny Hinn or others crusades? I imagine not. Have you ever been slain in the Spirit? Probably not. Paul was. Praying in tongues, and this healing business is Biblical. Just study the Book of Acts. Have you ever seen a child blind at birth have his sight restored by the power of the Holy Spirit? I have. Therefore, one can have their opinions, but are not entitled to their own set of facts.

May God bless, golfjack

P.S. No, I am not part of the TBN family. I am a new creature in Christ Jesus.

Nope-never will either. I'd no more believe him than I would the Pope. In fact, I'd follow the Pope before I would Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland, Paul Crouch or any of the other charlatans on TBN.

Praying in tongues, and this healing business is Biblical.

I firmly believe in both-make no mistake about that. I just don't believe in "Charismania" when people go to a "laugh-in" and laugh for hours. That's no more biblical than some of the other lies propagated by the devil. If ever there was was a false prophet, Benny Hinn is the epitome. He's a liar, a fake healer, a heretic, and a charlatan...period. Blowing on people and them being slain in the spirit!! Give me a break! Wonder how much they were paid to fall backward so the "catchers" would receive them? What a joke...not to mention his many failed prophecies and necromancy. Did you know he goes to the gravesite of Katherine Kuhlmann, and talks to this gal? She's been dead for decades! He gets his power from this fraud I suppose. Anyone with an IQ over 75 should be able to see through him and others like him.

Golfjack - I hope it wasn't my words that you have taken offense to. It was merely a comment eluding to the fact that there are those who believe they are doing the work of God, but in the final summation when they say, "but Lord, I did this in your name and that in your name" he will say to them, "depart from me . . . I never knew you."
