Charlton Heston

So I always had a lot of respect for Charlton Heston, my father was a fan of a lot of his movies and naturally I grew up watching his movies. The Omega Man was great, I remember watching him in Ben Hur, The Ten Commandments, and yes, Planet of the Apes.

With that said I do know he was a Christian, and a strong 2nd Amendment supporter.

I was looking and saw some things such as Charlton Heston Presents The Bible (both a book and DVD collection). Anyone know of these and could reccomend them?

Also anyone read his autobiography by any chance? I'd like to learn more about Charlton Heston and his life, what he believed etc.

PS - I wasn't sure where to put this, as Charlton Hestons work spanned both books, and movies, but I ended up placing it in the Movies and TV section since I think he is most known as an actor.
 
I used to have respect for Charlton Heston, until I found out how gun crazy he was.

ok, while i understand your position. i know that he was a president of the nra. is that why? you do realise that while in america we can actually educate by renactments via actual weapons used. that isnt legal to do in any country in europe. nor can one use mace in europe and cops cant carry oc spray. both are chemical weapons and illegal on the continent of europe.

i dont recall heston being into automatic weapons. the reason i brought them up is most of the time the only reason you can get them is for historical collections. those are really not that easy to get and one must be wealthy. 5k a gun isnt for the average man.You must also register with the sheriff of the county you live in.
 
Just being president of the NRA wouldn't bother me. I once saw an interview with him where he talked about guns. He said he had a loaded gun in every room in his house. When asked whether he was afraid that someone would break in and if the guns were for self defense, he said he wasn't worried. He had the best security system money could buy. When questioned further about the reason for all those guns, he couldn't give an answer, but kept on about how it was his right and he didn't have to explain anything. The man was clearly obsessed.

yes there are those that are like that. i havent ran into one of those in a while. i know some gun lovers that have alot, but they dont relish the idea of taking a life. keep in mind that the alarm systems here(i have one myself) doenst really save you when the guy is breaking in.just saves the time of the calling the cops as they are in route. you still will have to react to him or her if they want to kill you. when seconds count a minute is too late.

i dont own any gun at present nor will i for some time.one my coworkers has a ccl .another thinks its ok to carry in a bar.:screwloose
 
I own several guns. I have my concealed carry permit but I openly carry my handgun (it's legal in Michigan). You look at any time in history, who were the people who concealed their weapons? The cutthroats and thieves. Honest, trustworthy folk could carry their swords, or when handguns came about on their waist without fear of harrasment.

I think it's okay for someone NOT drinking to carry into a bar. I also believe that every person old enough to own and carry a handgun should be able to carry in Universities.

I really didn't see this thread becoming about guns and gun laws, however. I guess I was trying to get some ideas on peoples thoughts about Charlton Heston as a Christian and his Christian works.

ok here in Florida, one cant carry in a bar, schools and also govt buildings. it doesnt matter if one is drinking or not.
 
They nearly passed a law in CT that would have banned nearly all handguns... :shame

I like Heston. I think he has ever right to have a loaded gun in every room in his house and if I had the money I'd probably do the same. Then again, I don't live in the safest town and I don't have the best security.

Didn't know he was a Christian, or that he liked guns. I just saw him before and like the stuff he is in.
 
The Second Amendment wasn't put into place so we Americans could legally reenact historic events. It was put in place because the founding fathers recognized the right of every person to defend himself.

i'm talking about fully auto weapons.

one has to justify himself to the atf why you have them, this includes functional tanks,weapons platforms. i believe they fall into that as well.its done to control and know where if theres a sudden robbery with an auto weapon who had it and where it came from. they do take the license from people who do crimes with them.

but the second amendment was not for self-defense totally as in europe they allowed guns but registery was required the founders didnt want govt to be that big. if you notice the line a well regulated militia being necessarty to secure a free state.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

OK then, isnt the idea of a standing army already in the constution articles? yup so why was that repeated again? think about then? the militia men. and what they were for? a standing army in minutes. ie the revolutionary war. that part isnt needed as we have the national guard that is the descdent of the early militias. in fact this will was called the militia till the late 1890's and early 1900s and the supreme court ruled that the states cant have their own militias

i will debate that further. my wife cousin does own a ton of auto weapons that he uses to reenact. he has the atf type 3 license and makes a ton on them as all local (statewide)ww2 reneactors on the german side pay him to use his weapons.

now then what else could one do with the mg42 that is more rapid firing then then the same size ammo carrying and firing weapon in the military arsenal of the u.s.? where would one actually fire ammo? i know a place and its quite a drive. of course if i could own one and i could possibly fire it on the guard installations but..i would have clear that one first.
 
I could justify a full auto weapon for self defense...

"So listen here Mr. ATF man, I need this fully automatic weapon for self defense. What if, due to my excellent planning, I am the last one in town to have clean food and water and also heat? People will be trying to get into my house and steal my stuff. No way a semi-auto is gonna hold the entire population of my city at bay!"

And is it more or does ATF sound like a wicked awesome name for a store located in Texas? I don't drink and I don't smoke, but I'd still go to a store called "Alcohol. Tobacco. Firearms." :thumbsup

Back to Mr. Heston. Anyone have a favorite of his?
