Check this awesome 3D Cathedral screensaver out!

When I see buildings like that. Mansions, Cathedrals, Huge mega million dollar buildings... etc., It amazes me of the beauty and yet it appalls me to think they would spend all that money on such a building when there are poor people in the world that are begging for food and a roof over their head. The heads of congregation of the rich is appalling!

It wouldn't bother me so much if they decided to FIRST take care of the poor before they decided to build those mega-million-dollar buildings!

The all to many religions, along with the catholics, have so many mansions and cathedrals it makes me sick! They use all those tithes and offerings for elaborate looking buildings! Yes, the beauty is awesome! But honestly! When a poor person lives right down the street from them it is a sad sad sight!

If you thought that was outstanding, St. Mary's (edited from St. Joseph's) (1885) in Detroit Mi will absolutly take your breath away!!
I was downtown Detroit yesterday and got a first hand view of this wonderful masterpeice!

This Picture is inside St. Mary's... All I can say is that when I walked in, my breath was taken away.

This Picture below is not of St. Mary's, but it gives you the magnatude that the Catholics have in Detroit. They must have over a dozen churches around downtown that will make you stand in awe.

Yeah, they're ornate alright...purchased with the blood of the saints and from taking from their own as well as the gold of other countries to amass such wealth. Makes me want to barf! :x I wonder if anyone recalls when the pope visited the US and how he chastened us for not showing more mercy to the poor and to devastated areas? Wonder how many millions the Vatican will donate to New Orleans from their little piggy bank? Most likely...none. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the Vatican is the wealthiest organization on earth with it's pope being the richest man alive. They've had centuries of plundering other countries money, gold, lands and properties to amass such wealth as they have today. Their treasury of solid gold has been assessed at billions of dollars. They started all our major wars and helped finance it...all for the glory of gain.

Well, I followed the prompts and downloaded the 3D picture. It took about 30/40 minutes. Now I have a box that keeps on popping up telling me: "Could not find any compatible direct 3D devices." So, I haven't as yet been able to appreciate the screen-saver. Any suggestions?

Yeah, delete the file and then go check your computer for installed spyware.

Many times these screen savers, these so called "free" screen savers come with a spyware program hidden in the file. When you down load it, it is likely you also downloaded and installed a spyware program. :-?

What does the beauty of a building have to do with caring for people in need? :sad

The inside of that church looks exactly like St. Margaret's Church which I attended when I was a child. EXPENSIVE AND ELABORATELY DECORATED. When the neighborhood started changing. They closed it and sold the school, the church, the grounds along with the priests rectory, the nuns convent and left all the people in the neighborhood. They moved to a rich suburb. BUT before they moved they asked all the parishioners for a 1000.00 donation so they could move to a bigger church. They "claimed" the church grew and they needed a bigger building to accommodate the parishioners. WELL! They left everyone in the neighborhood behind! The poor people who didn't have money to "follow" them out to the suburbs! They moved because the neighborhood was changing NOT because the chruch was growing! They moved to a better neighborhood where the rich people lived! That was back in the late 60's early 70's. They just picked up and left! And they had the nerve to ask my mother for $1000.00 to help them make the move. She was raising four children on her own. My mother barely had enough money to clothe us, let alone feed us! and that church had the nerve to ask her for 1000.00 to help them move!!!! Back in those days that was 5 months rent for my mom! They never did a thing for my mom who was struggling to raise four children on her own.

All that church did was take money from people so they could get even richer!!! They NEVER helped my mom out. They only took money from people and even dared aske the poor people to pay up or they could not belong to the school! Well. My mom had to take us out of the school after only 2 years there! It was too expensive for her and they refused to help her out so we could sty in catholic school! It was a pay up or get out deal! There was no pitching in to help to poor. They shunned the poor! But they sure had enough money to buy a bigger church in a richer neighborhood!!!!!!

It is a shame the churches take the parishioners money and use it on their GOLD ICONS and MEGA MILLION DOLLAR BUILDING!!! :smt019

I'm mixed on this one.
Too much splendor? Probably. Too much inspiration? Not likely.
So agreed to a point of the money spent yet I see an area of focus for people to see that the faith is alive and well. Which isn't bad really.
And I can see the other side as Jesus commented about the oil used to annoint him... you'll always have the poor.

So...
What about the message that comes from those gilded halls? What about the morality taught from those in the forefront at the pulpits? Surely we can look past the glitter and know the message is the true value. Do we listen to the worth of The Word or do we focus on the eye candy making a case against the very thing we really need to pay attention to?

I suppose it depends on what it is you focus on. Is your focus on the cost of the oil or is your heart centered on what is being said at the table?

You sound a lot like Judas.

Mary took a liter of costly perfumed oil made from genuine aromatic nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and dried them with her hair; the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. Then Judas the Iscariot, one (of) his disciples, and the one who would betray him, said, "Why was this oil not sold for three hundred days' wages and given to the poor?" He said this not because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief and held the money bag and used to steal the contributions. So Jesus said, "Leave her alone. Let her keep this for the day of my burial. You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me." (John 12:3-8)

You also notice that in the Bible Jesus went to the temple, which was elaborate. He did not say sale all the gold and art in the temple and give it to the poor. Instead he threw the people out that were using the house of God for personal gain. (Lk 19:45) Catholic Priests don't make very much but put this against how much some Protestant ministers makes and then lets talk.

The Cathedrals and Artwork are "public wealth" it's for everyone for the greater glory of God. Most Cathedrals were also built by the sweat and dedication of the trades men who would work in the evenings to build the Cathedrals after their regular jobs. And if you consider how long the Cathedrals last they probably are more economical than building cheap buildings that need to be rebuilt every 25-50 years or so. The Catholic Church does a lot for the poor.

The Catholic Church does a lot for the poor.

Sure they did...burned them at the stake, confiscated their property and lands, forbid them from holding any kind of office. put them on racks, had mother's babies torn out of their stomachs, cut womens breast off with shears, boiled them alive, etc. The list goes on for as long as you are tall. Check out the atrocities in Croatia in the 1940's what they did and of how the gold was looted and the people given the "opportunity" to convert to Catholicism or else.. More recently, how much Vatican money went to help the Tsunami victims? How much help did the people of new Orleans, and Gulport, Mississippi obtain from Rome? Zilch-that's how much. Many countries have contributed to their disaster but not Rome. Don't come telling me the Catholic Church has done anything for the poor and underprivileged....in this country or elsewhere. Where's the Vatican listed? They can parade a cracker up and down the street in a gold monstrance, drink from golden chalises and put a crown on the "Virgin Mary's" head (Semiramis incognito) with untold riches on the crown of rubies, emeralds, and other precious jeweles but, where is help from them when an international crisis happens? They-the most richest institutition on the earth. What a farce!! One crown from their pagan goddess could probably rebuild New Orleans.

As Cure posted above.. several Catholic charities are lending aid to those affected by Hurricaine Katrina.

And I can personally vouch that my parish took up a collection solely for sending to New Orleans at all the Masses this weekend. We did the same for Tsunami victims.

You're judging the Church rather harshly, and so it seems: without the facts.

Every parish and Catholic school in my area has been raising money for the hurricane victims. Our Catholic youth have been standing outside of wal-mart all day physically solicating alms for the victims.

I wasn't referring to the local parishes and schools, but rather, to the Vatican itself which is probably the wealthest organization on earth. Some real help could have come from ther if they cared about humanity as the pretend. How many could be fed by just giving up one tiara?

So you want to arbitrarily split up the Church? Sorry, you can't make up your own rules to condemn those you are intent to condemn...

Wow. I am a protestant and I think you just simply sound bitter. Do you remember any of the atrocities that our history has recorded? I think we can all look back and find things that are horrifying. The idea is to move forward and not practice those sins again. You seem to still be in the attack mode for no other reason then to attack. That would be sinful also.

The last two photos are of St. Josaphat's Polish Church in Detroit. Yes, they ARE beautiful, built by the pennies and dimes of poor immigrants who WANTED a beautiful church---and got it. There is NOTHING WRONG with beautiful churches. That's what the people wanted---and got. Only the best for God, you know.

Check out the sites for St. Hyacinth's in Detroit as well as Sweetest Heart of Mary in Detroit.

Wow!

Hello, I was really glad to get a reply! And it looks like my post gave an idea for a new topic.

Steve,
When I was searching the web for pictures of St. Mary's, I got the idea that St. Josaphat's Polish Church in Detroit and St. Mary's were the same church... Maybe I was wrong.
Anyway, the picture that I posted looks exactly like St. Mary's. It's beautiful and breath taking!

Regards,
Jeff
