Isa 42:

Isaiah 42

1Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.

2He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.

3A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.

4He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.

5Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:

6I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;

It is extremely rare that I see anything written or taught regarding the Person of Christ and the Covenant, but yet His Person and Work is combined with a Covenant, and in fact in our text He is even designated a covenant " and give thee for a covenant of the people" .

John Gill :
"
Christ is a covenantee, a party concerned in the covenant of grace; the representative of his people in it; the surety, Mediator, messenger, and ratifier of it; the great blessing in it; the sum and substance of it; all the blessings and promises of it are in him, and as such he is "given"; it is of God's free grace that he was appointed and intrusted with all this in eternity, and was sent in time to confirm and secure it for "the people"; given him of his Father, redeemed by him and to whom the Spirit applies the blessings and promises of the covenant; even the elect of God, both among Jews and Gentiles, especially the latter, as follows: for a light of the Gentiles;"

He is the messenger of the covenant per Mal 3:

1Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the LORD, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.

How many really understand that Jesus birth is the coming of the messenger of the covenant ? Jesus, God's Son was sent into the world on behalf of God's Holy Covenant !

Speaking of Jesus near birth, the Father of John the baptist, Zacharias prophesied saying per lk 1:

68Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people,

69And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David;

70As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:

71That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;

72To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;

The Covenant made with Christ and His Father from all eternity and had been revealed to Gods People, Adam, Noah, and Abraham, Issac and Jacob, David !

This is why David said: 2 sam 23

5Although my house be not so with God; yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure: for this is all my salvation, and all my desire, although he make it not to grow.

God was in His Faithfulness establishing His everlasting Covenant with the seed of Abraham Gen 17:

5Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.

6And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings [as King David] shall come out of thee.

7And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.

Isa 42:6 prophesied Him as Gods gift [of mercy] for a covenant of the people:

From another scripture, this is referenced by Simeon per lk 2:

31Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;

32A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

And it should be duly noted that the scope of the beneficiaries of the covenant mercy was not just for one people [ethnic jews] but for all people, for Abraham had a seed in all nations gen 17:5.

BTW this passage is one that begins to associate the gentiles with Gods People Israel [of promise] see rom 9: 6 and eph 3:6 !

So the covenant people Israel, which the covenant mercy [Christ] is promised to, is a Israel comprised of all people, that is a people of all nationalities.

rev 5:

9And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

Remember what was said earlier by Zacharias in lk 1:

68Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people,

They are the same people ! That is the people in rev 5 9 who are redeemed are the same lk 1 68 says are redeemed !

This is according to Christ and the Covenant !

Christ the Covenant Messenger !

There is no preaching Christ and His work without realizing the Covenant, for He is the Messenger of the Covenant per Mal 3:

1Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the LORD, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.

This means that His words of salvation pertained to the fulfillment of a Covenant Jn 6,10,14-17 .

As the Messenger of the Covenant He did declare the Decree Ps 2:

7I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

I will declare the Purpose of God ! The Covenant, the Everlasting Covenant of Grace !

I will declare the counsels of God, just like His chosen apostle Paul acts 20:

27For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel [or decree] of God.

For He was executing the service of Mediator of the Covenant Heb 12:

24And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

BTW this is the meaning of 1 Tim 2:

5For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

That would be Mediator of men who are to partake of the New Covenant !

By Him, the Triune God, the One True and Living God was fulfilling the promises to the Elect Covenant People of Mankind heb 8:

8For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:

10For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

This Covenant is unconditional to the beneficiaries, it only announces what God will do unto them sovereignly !

#1. I will put my laws into their mind

#2. write them upon their hearts

#3. I will be unto them A God

#4. They shall be unto Him a People

#5. They shall be Taught of God 1 jn 2:27

#6. They will be given a True Spiritual Knowledge of God Jn 17:3

#7. He shall be merciful to their sins and unrighteousness and remember their sins no more !

The Shedding of His Blood is in view of this Covenant Matt 26:

28For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

The Covenant Mission

Jn 6:

38For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

39And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

40And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

This Covenant Mission is that the Surety of the Covenant heb 7:

22 By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.

The Eternal Son of God came into the World to restore to Covenantal Fellowship the fallen, guilty, corrupt and at enmity Elect of God, those given to Him by the Father before the world began.

His Mission was to bring them back to God 1 pet 3:18

For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

1 pet 2:

24Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

25For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

Notice the word returned ! Does not that imply going back to something before ?

Remember the prodigal son ? He returned back lk 15:

17And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!

18I will arise and go [return] to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,

The Lord Jesus Christ mission in the Covenant was to mediate and bring back to God His sons and daughters, that had apostatized in Adam and Eve, in which they broke the Covenant they were created under, for Adam was too a Covenant Head Hos 6:7

But they like men[Adam] have transgressed the covenant: there have they dealt treacherously against me.

And now each of them, Gods elect, are born with a nature that hates and opposes Him. Jesus Christ work of mediation, grounded in His cross, effects their redemption, which gives them the right to return back into fellowship with their Father God, and to this purpose, they are given the Spirit of Adoption, for the renewing of the Holy Ghost, by which they come into experiential union by Faith; for this the way their Covenant Head, the Son of God reveals to them [ His Brethren] the everlasting covenant of their salvation.

Thats why David could say 2 sam 23:

5Although my house be not so with God; yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure: for this is all my salvation, and all my desire, although he make it not to grow.

This Covenant will be revealed to all for whom Christ died, for it was ratified with His blood.

He will confirm this covenant with many Dan 9:

27And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. cp Matt 26:

28For this is my blood of the new testament [covenant], which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

The Covenant of Grace or the Everlasting Covenant !

The Covenant that Christ is the messenger of is the everlasting covenant of which He agreed to shed His blood as the Shepherd of the sheep !

Heb 13:

20Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,

21Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

This covenant is the Gospel, and is eventually revealed to each and every elect vessel of mercy :

Its a compact or agreement made from all eternity [ the basis of which the world was created] among the Divine Persons of the One God Head, particularly between the Father and the Son, concerning the salvation of the elect, as to the means of Glorifying the God Head and its marvelous Perfections and Wisdom. Its alluded to here:

acts 2:

23Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:

4:27For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,

28For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.

eph 1:

3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

4According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

5Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

11In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

The determinate counsel being, God the Father compacted with His Son, witnessed by the Spirit, The Son as the Head and Representative of a chosen people [ The Sheep Jn 10], the Son concurring to all covenant stipulations, whereby the Father gives stipulations for the Son to do as per intimated in Jn 10:

17Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.

18No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment [or stipulation] have I received of my Father.

14:

31But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.

15:

10If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

Eternal Life is involved in this commandment Jn 12:

49For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

50And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

So doing [Laying down His Life] The Father promises to bestow Honor and Glory on Him and the elect or Sheep that He represents, those chosen in Him before the foundation.

Isa 53:

10Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

11He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

Heb 12:

2Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

The Son agrees to do all the Father stipulated for Him to do, and He expects and claims the Fulfillment of the Promises of His Father, therefore such speech from Him as in Jn 17:4ff

Now I know we all have been indoctrinated into calling it "A Covenant of Grace," but how many times does Scripture call it a "Covenant of Grace?" Not once. Stop and think about this: Can anyone really say that God's grace was NOT with us since Creation?

Gen. 6:8 "But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord."

Ex 33:16-17 "For how shall it be known here that I and Your people have found grace in Your sight? is it not in that You go with us? So shall we be separated, I and Your people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth. And the Lord said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that you have spoken: for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name."

So what really is the "New Covenant?" Is it really new?

God tells us in Jeremiah that this Covenant is, "the same Covenant that I made with your fathers, it’s the same commandments that I gave to you, but this time, I’m going to make it new. Instead of writing it on two tablets of stone, I’m going to write it on the tablets of your hearts. I’m going to put My Law (Torah) inside of you.†This is completely consistent with all of the other Scriptures that prophesy the New Covenant; that the Messiah would come as the son of David, raise up the Temple of the Lord, and build it within our hearts and that it would remain forever. So what’s so new about that? Is this more like “renewed

The Messiah told His disciples, "A new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another." Is this really a new commandment? No. The apostle John talks about this. It’s not a new commandment, but a very old commandment! In fact, it’s the 2nd greatest commandment; "love your neighbor as yourself." Love one another! So what was the Messiah really saying by "a new commandment I give unto you?" He was telling them to keep an old commandment that they have never kept before! So when they decide to actually keep it, it’ll be new to them! To actually love one another! Do you realize that this is the actual context for the New Covenant?

Many times God said, "I know that you’re going to break this Covenant. I know you’re not going to keep My commandments. But even though you abhor it, even though you act with hostility toward Me, even though you do this I WILL REMEMBER THE COVENANT FOR YOU AND I WILL KEEP IT FOR YOU!

So why did Messiah have to die? The whole reason why the Messiah came and offered His life was because HE WAS PAYING THE PRICE FOR US NOT KEEPING THE COVENANT! If you love me, keep My commandments - and not just the first 10 but ALL of them! He suffered so we would still receive the benefit and promises of the "old" Covenant! Repent and return to the Lord! He has suffered the curse of death as a substitute for us! That is the whole message of the Good News.

nw wings:

but how many times does Scripture call it a "Covenant of Grace?" Not once

And how many times does scripture say its not a covenant of grace ? Not once !

The Covenant the Christ was a party of, and that from everlasting mic 5:

2But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

Was that of a Covenant of the everlasting covenant [heb 13:20] where agreed to shed His blood in it, it was a Covenant of Grace, or a Covenant of Redemption eph 3:8-11;col 1:14-18

Though many lie in ignorance to this fact, this world was created for a redemptive from sin purpose col 1:14-18 rom 8:20-21, it was created for the Mediator Head Christ Jesus.

We would now like to consider and set forth the originator of this Covenant , this gracious covenant of the God Head, The Father takes the First Place, for it is written:

2 cor 5:

18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

God here in this verse, I take to be the Father, the God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The inference here is that God the Father, by His Mediator Son Jesus Christ, hath reconciled all things [ The elect world in Adam] unto Himself, and so all things are of Him, He Purposed the Everlasting Covenant, and All things regarding the salvation of men are of Him !

1 cor 1:

30But of him [The Father] are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

Eph 1:

3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

4According as he [The Father] hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

2 cor 5:

19To wit, that God was in[with] Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

In the proposal of this Covenant before the World began, God the Father was reconciling the world of the elect to Himself, and because of the agreement, their sins would not be imputed to them, but unto Christ who Covenanted to die for them.

Many believe that that this reconciliation took place in time, but I do not believe that to be so, it was before time began in the counsel of peace zech 6:13

Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.

The Covenant of Peace from everlasting ezk 37:26

Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them: and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore.

This Covenant of Peace is revealed to each elect partaker of it in the Gospel of Peace to them rom 10:15

And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

eph 6:15

And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

From the God who is the originator of the Peace through the blood of the everlasting covenant Heb 13:20

Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,

This reconciliation therefore occurred when God the Father made proposals to the Son in this Covenant arrangement, in which all engagements were settled when He gave the commandments to the Son, on what He shall do and say Jn 10:

18No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.[In the everlasting covenant]

Jn 12:

49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.[In the everlasting covenant]

And this commandment secured the Eternal Life of the beneficiaries, those He died for Jn 12:

49For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

50And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

Notice Jn 10:17-18 Jesus receiving a commandment to lay down His Life for the Sheep This Tells us that the sins of the Sheep and their well being was in this covenant of or counsel of peace, for thats why He would lay down His life, for the chastisement of their peace ! isa 53:10

5But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our[The Sheep] peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

The sins of the sheep in the Covenant Counsel from everlasting were laid upon charge of their Shepherd by the Father, and so before the world began, God The Father was with Christ reconciling the world [ of the sheep] unto Himself, the sheep who would go astray in Adam.

Remember what peter wrote to the elect of God ? 1 pet 2:25

For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

Is it possible it is because very few churches partake of the Lord's Supper on a weekly basis, or for those that do partake on a semi-regular basis it's been reduced to some juice and a cracker?

Matthew 26:28 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Many people don't even know what a covenant is, let alone covenant theology. :shrug

The Father called Christ from the womb of Eternity and set him up and anointed Him a priest Forever ps 110:

1The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

2The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.

3Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.

4The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

The Septuagint reads:

110:1 The Lord said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

2 The Lord shall send out a rod of power for thee out of Sion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.

3 With thee is dominion in the day of thy power, in the splendours of thy saints: I have begotten thee from the womb before the morning.

4 The Lord sware, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever, after the order of Melchisedec.

Thats why Jesus even before the incarnation, is God's only begotten Son !

Prov 8:

22The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.

23I was set up [Anointed] from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.

31Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men[The elect chosen in Him].

It was then, from the womb of the Morning, that He was given His Eternal Covenant engagements [ His delight was with the Sons of Men] and He was promised reward for performing the engagements, that eternal blessings would be give or bestowed on all those chosen in Him [ prov 8:31], and for His sake. In fact it is given [not offered] to those he benefited by His death, both to believe and to suffer for His sake.

phil 1:

29For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;

The Father rewards the Son with Believers in Him and sufferers for Him.

Thats why Jesus says, with an eye to the covenant jn 6:

37All that the Father giveth me shall come to me[Believe in me]; and him that cometh[believeth] to me I will in no wise cast out.

The work that the Father commanded of His Son is the only condition God required in order for the chosen ones to receive the blessings of Eternal Life and its accompaniments !

Jn 17:

2As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.[Given in the everlasting Covenant, chosen in Him]

This Covenant of the God Head, is revealed to Gods Chosen People and produces in them Faith in Christ, who is the Surety of that Covenant.

God revealed the Covenant to the parents of the elect seed Adam and Eve, no sooner as they had been defeated by the devil.

Though the words of Satan's defeat was not said directly to them, but as it was a judgment to Satan, yet it gave them occasion of good news as to what their seed would do unto him. It was to them certainly words of grace.

Gen 3:

15And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Hence from this, Adam and Eve realized that they were not going to immediately die off the scene, but that of their seed, spoken as her seed, would come the one who would destroy Satan, and be their Saviour !

It was intimated in this promise the Incarnation of the Son of God, the seed of the woman, the virgin birth. This also indicated that He would not have a natural Father. It foreshadowed Christ sufferings, as the devil shall bruise His heel, but this bruising would be for the salvation of His People, having their sins imputed to Him.

The bruising of the serpents head indicates destroying the devils power and authority. 1 jn 3:

For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

This was intimated in Gen 3 15, bruising the devils head.

Not only this, but we see God apply the Grace of the eternal covenant to the parents of the elect race here:

gen 3:

21Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

This was symbolic of how God applies the righteousness of Christ to our account, after seeing our own nakedness and wretchedness. see gen 3:10-11

God by grace clothes His peoples nakedness and wretchedness with the garments of Christ Righteousness and Salvation.

Those coats being made of skins of slain beast, pointed to Christ being slain for them from the foundation, because of the agreement within the Everlasting Covenant.

rev 13:

8And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

1 pet 1

20Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

I believe God had taught Adam and Eve through this the significance of the seed of the women, and His sacrifice for their sin, or the sin of the world Jn 1:

29The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

God by grace clothes His peoples nakedness and wretchedness with the garments of Christ Righteousness and Salvation.

Yes He does this through faith in THE GOSPELS. The written Word of God.

10:15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written,
How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace,
and bring glad tidings of good things!

10:16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord,
who hath believed our report?

10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Once you hear you can either believe or not. The choice is with EVERY man. Not just with your elitist hyper-calvanist group.

How do you know you are one of the chosen ones?

strange:

Yes He does this through faith in THE GOSPELS.

No He does not. He did it by Christ obedience rom 5:

19For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

For every man the process starts with faith in the Gospels.

I don't believe in magic. Sorry.

I am sorry but you seem to have put your faith in the wrong place. You have repeated several times that faith is in the Gospels, plural, as though it is in the story of Christ rather than in the Christ of the stories. If you have put your faith in the Gospels as you state it isn't in Christ but in a story of Christ.
