- Php 1:15 Some indeed even preach Christ because of envy and strife, and some also of good will. [/*:m:1fpxg9wb]
- Php 1:16 Those, indeed, preach Christ out of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds. [/*:m:1fpxg9wb]
- Php 1:17 But these others preach in love, knowing that I am set for the defense of the gospel. [/*:m:1fpxg9wb]
- Php 1:18 What then? Nevertheless, in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached. And I rejoice in this. Yet, also I will rejoice. [/*:m:1fpxg9wb]
[list:1fpxg9wb]There are some who preach under pretense of truth.
What is the purpose? It's no mystery.
Look to the fruit and see.
Let us no longer be satisified with a small knowledge of You, Jesus.
A small measure of Christian love, knowledge, and fruitfulness should not satisfy any.
Paul declared, "For God is my witness how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ." (Php 1:8 -MKJV) This longing "in the bowels" speaks of compassion and Christian love for one another. There are those who have proclaimed themselves to be the very font of knowledge of God and from this elevated place they proclaim themselves and not God.
It is my prayer that the Lord equip us with gifts of Discernment so that those who would enter to pervert the Grace and Mercy of God are seen for what they are. Asking here in Jesus Name.
Can Christ be "preached because of envy and strife" --that is, for the purpose of producing envy and strife -OR- from a place of personal envy and contention? Certainly. Paul's teaching seen in his letter to the Philippians indicates yes. We can see this very thing on the forum even now, even today. What's Paul's conclusion?
The Holy Spirit through Paul said:What then? Nevertheless, in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached. And I rejoice in this. Yet, also I will rejoice.
Php 1:18 (MKJV)
