Christian Death Metal?!?!

Music has come a long way over the years, and many new subgenres have been created from the fusion of more generic genres. Some work well together, and some don't. Possibly the most oxymoronic subgenre that has made its way into the music scene is Christian Death Metal.

Death Metal: a form of music written by combining the most chaotic dissonant sounds with horribly disturbing lyrics that focus on nothing but death, destruction, and extremely brutal violence. Somehow, Death Metal found itself partnering up with Christianity and giving birth to Christian Death Metal.

Please express your feelings on the subject

*For prime examples of Christian Death Metal, look up bands such as Impending Doom, I Built the Cross, With Blood Comes Cleansing, and Zao. Or just look up "List of Christian Metal bands" :nod

This upsets me not only that people are creating such music in this world, but that people are trying to
invade Christianity with such violence! I wouldn't think any true Christian would try to spread the word of Jesus with such violent images!

Sounds satanic .... not every person or every music band that calls itself "Christian" is truly Christian ! !

First and foremost, I Built The Cross is a ministry, and our utmost priority is to disperse, expand, and clarify the love and grace that Jesus Christ has so freely given to us. Secondly, we like to play Spirit-Led Technical Death Metal, with a little hardcore influence sprinkled here and there. Anyway, this section isn't devoted solely to musical participants, but spiritual members as well.

this was pulled directly from I Built the Cross's myspace page. Most bands that label themselves as "Christian Death Metal" are actually for real, and their lyrics prove it (if you can understand them).

^

Christianity does not promote death, destruction and brutal violence.

What do they mean by "hardcore influence" and "spiritual members" ?

:confused

That is precisely what i meant in me saying that their lyrics prove their Christianity. These bands fuse the musical aspect of Death Metal with Christian-influenced lyrics to fit into the subgenre Christian Death Metal

"Hardcore" is just another genre they take influence from. When they say "spiritual members", they mean that their music isn't limited to people who just listen to them for their music, they invite people to listen to their music for the spirituality of it, meaning they listen to and contemplate their lyrics.

At one point in history the pipe organ was referred to as "the devil's pipes" and not fit for Christian worship. :oops

I listen to a variety of Christian music: contemporary Christian, Christian rock, Christian metal (including hardcore and death metal). I can assure you it isn't "new age" or "satanic". It's just a different style of music.

I'm all about Death Metal. Christian OR secular. Fuels me with passion. Fuels me to channel my energy to survive. Helps me to find strength within that I never knew existed.

Christian Death Metal is unbiblical. It gratifies the flesh, as those who perform death metal have no sense of morality in Life. Christian Death Metal? Please! Tom Araya sure isn't promoting any christian values with his so called "catholicism".

Instead of Christian Death Metal, listen to the alternative, Christian Eternal Life Metal. It's the same exact music as this so called "Death Metal", just it's more of "Let's spend eternity with god" than it is "Let's spend eternity with Satan!!!".

So from now on, Christian Death Metal will be and will always be referred to as Christian Eternal Life Metal, cause Christians only die once.

The way I see it, Christian Death Metal bands have a little bit of a dilemma. They want to maintain the image of hardcore metal in order to appeal to and witness to nonbeliever metal heads, but they also want to appeal to Christians. So if they abandon the term, "Death Metal," will they lose followers? Probably, at least in the non-Christian audience. And they definitely don't want to lose them.

I think we should be careful not to judge these guys, whether we can't stand to listen to their music or not. If their primary goal is to share God's Word and can manage to reach a difficult audience, I say God bless 'em!

Obviously Christian death metal bands don't have death metal lyrics? If they did have death metal lyrics then I would question their faith (not wanting to judge). I love bands like Underoath etc. They're Christan and quite heavy metal. For me it's the style of metal I like, and if I can get some Christian lyrics, then that's great.

dude look up impending doom. underoath is like hardcore for 8th graders[/quote]

Underoath is hardly "heavy" compared to Christian metal bands like Sacrament, Deliverance, Tourniquet, etc. Underoath is good, but I wouldn't label them as heavy metal.

;)

Demon Hunter is good but barely death metal.

This is Christian death metal at it's finest! :) Starts off rather slow, so give it about a minute for the the death metal madness to kick in! :D

It is among the finest of Christian death metal bands. Perhaps this isn't the best song or band for Christian death metal, but they are pretty good. I miss the metal of the late 80's and 90's. Now days it's not quite the same, at least it doesn't seem like it.
