Marriage according to Christianity
Christian marriage is the marriage union that unites two faiths in Christ Jesus, this marriage union is based on the faith of Christ and the word of God. So how can we distinguish or distinguish a Christian marriage from a marriage union concluded between two pagans? While it is true that in both cases couples will go through the same situations or may face the same kind of problems, afflictions, joys, and other things.
Key Features of Christian Marriage
  • A Marriage with a Purpose: When two Christians are married, the alliance is primarily for the glory of God. It is not for the individual happiness of men and women, nor for the fulfillment of their own will. Rather, they are led by God, they love each other and are doing God's will, that is the reason. because they decided to get married. Both received God's blessing to love, respect, and serve each other. The purpose of this Christian union of man and woman is not according to something of their own making, but to something higher than themselves, God: Romans 11:36 (NKJV) ): “Verily, all things are due to Him, through Prayer, and for Him. May he be glorified forever! Amen.
  • Voluntary and Caring Marriage: The internal arrangement of love in a Christian couple comes from the source of God's love. Both husband and wife are aware and feel above all that they are loved by Christ, and based on that love they both love each other. The identity of both is found in that they are children of God and not in the man or woman of whom they may be children. This means that they can love and tolerate one another, even when it comes to difficult situations to do so because their love is based on God's love: Ephesians number 5:25 (NASB): “Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church and gave his life for her.” Hebrews 13:4 (NIV): “Let marriage be honored in all things, and the marriage bed undefiled, for the immoral and the sexually immoral will be judged by God.”
  • Unions are founded on faith: The foundation of Christian marriage is faith in the gospel of God's grace in Jesus Christ. God's great love for them to give them undue grace, man and woman are sinners. It is with God's great love that they will measure their need to forgive sins. And between both husband and wife, the fruit of the Spirit of living life in Christ will be reflected: Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV):22: But the fruit of the Spirit is love. love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, self-control. There are no laws against that.”
  • Shared Duties: Duties in a family formed by a Christian marriage are not based on sexist or feminist feelings. Both Christian husbands and wives know that they have the same dignity, worth, and equality before the grace of God. Neither one is superior to the other and they will do so based on Jesus Christ: Colossians 3:17-19 (KJV): 17 “And whatsoever you do, whether in word or works, in the name of Jesus give thanks to God the Father through Him.” However, God gives instructions about marriage and the roles of both men and women in the family.
