Christian Pastors Found Guilty of Vilifying Islam

"Christians in Australia are pondering the implications of an explosive ruling handed down Friday by a legal tribunal, which found that two Christian pastors had vilified Islam.

Immediate reactions ranged from an evangelical commentator's view that the decision spelled "the beginning of the end of freedom of speech in Australia" to that of a liberal church denomination which said it sent a welcome message to "Christian extremist groups."




I don't know if this case has been mentioned before on these forums, but I think its a worrying assault on free speech.

In connection with the above story, the Labour government in Britain is trying to create a new offence of "incitement to religious hatred".

Good thing for me I'm not in Australia. I might get arrested. :o Does anyone else here agree that Islam vilifys itself?

I was thinking that the moslems are doing quite a good job at vilifying Islam.

After 911 President Bush spoke in a mousque , he stated that Islam is a kind and loving religion which had been hijaked by some who are radical.
He also siad we all pray to the same God.
Many may feel like Islam is not a true religion just as muslems don't see other religons as being true ones. What ever your thoughts thats what they should be thoughts, keep them to yourself , thats why there is so much fighting all think they are right. Let God be the judge. Lets face it all will be judged by him and being hateful towards others is not a real healthy thing to do.
There is so much to learn and once learned dont stumble by letting hate in your heart for others that dont share your views. You know the truth and thats all you need to remember, and keep it close too your heart, a heart that loves and does not hate.

There is a difference between criticizing a religion, and hating the adherents of the religion.

In Western countries there is an ideology of "multiculturalism" and "tolerance". In this climate it is far easier for a politician to say that "true" Islam is a peaceful and tolerant religion, rather than to criticize aspects of Islamic theology.
 
If Bush truly believes that about Islam he is deluded, or deceived. If not he's a liar!

Normally, I would agree with your live and let live attitude, but when i is this far off I have to say something. President Bush is wrong, Christians and Muslims do NOT have the same God. Allah was the name of a minor deity in a rather large pantheon of idols among the Arabs of his day. Allah, the moon deity, was symbolized by the Crescent Moon. When Mohammad first started promoting his sect, he was ostracized by his own people for trying to resurrect a vilified minor deity.

Hi All,
I am in sydney Australia and let me tell you we have a greater freedom to express our christian views that most other Countries, including America. This one incident was brought forward as this specific Pastor has had bad dealings with Muslims before, its not as bad as everyone makes out..


Also on the whole Bush saying we and Muslims worship the same God, is their any proof he said this??
