Christianity without a church building

I do not think the word "fat" is politically correct enough as that could still cause offence to others. I think "weight challenged" is more appropriate.

And in an effort to not offend the "great white shark" will also be renamed the "average caucasian shark".
you can call me the great white fat guy

Our country church just recently began meeting for regular worship again. This is what we have been doing.
  • We pushed every other pew up against the one in front of it so people have to sit farther apart.
  • We recommend people to sit spaced apart using the social distancing guidelines unless they are members of immediate families.
  • We have face masks and hand sanitizer available at the entrance and encourage their use.
  • We do not pass the offering plate around to avoid contact spread but place it at the church entrance so those who wish to contribute are free to do so. Some have chosen to send their offerings to me via US mail (I'm the treasurer).
  • We moved the lectern to the opposite side of the sanctuary so the readers stay to that side from our pastor as he is now using the podium. He prefers not to use it because it is so high up but for now.... Our pastor is in his late 70's and has a history of health issues which make him vulnerable to the virus so we are doing as much as possible to keep him somewhat isolated from the congregation.
Unfortunately, one important aspect of our worship is furloughed for now; communion. We have not figured out a practical way to share communion bread and wine without putting others at potential risk. If anyone has ideas, I'm all ears.

I see two options. Either a virtual communion service where everybody eets online or skype at a set time & day and all provide their own wine and bread.

Or everyone provide their own wine & bread. (I use crackers) and meet in person where everyone has their own and stands 6 ft apart or whatever. Being one in spirit is the important part.

I suspect that a lot of people don't take communion except when the local church does it. Like it's got to be done at church or something, and this is not true. First off, we are the church and secondly, why couldn't we buy our own wine for this? You can. I have a bottle of wine in the fridge right now, and it is the blood of Christ.

Christianity has many different offerings around the world.
The most popular offering is the meeting in a church building.
Very good Rollo, You recognise that there are different forms of offerings we can give to God, and not just the typical financial offering. There is anything spiritual and puts God first can be considered an offering. The most elusive one is cleaning the church. People take that one for granted.
