†. Mrk 4:37-41 . . A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him: Master, don't you care if we drown?
. . . He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves: Quiet! Be still! Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples: Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith? They were terrified and asked each other: Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!
What exactly did Christ mean by: Do you still have no faith? Well; in another place he instructed them :
†. Luke 17:6 . . If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree "Be uprooted and planted in the sea" and it will obey you.
And in another :
†. Mtt 17:20 . . I tell you the truth: if you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain "Move from here to there" and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.
What that's telling me is: had the disciples faith as a grain of mustard seed they could have calmed the storm themselves instead of waking an exhausted Jesus from much-needed sleep to do it for them.
That is an astounding revelation. It tells me that certain people in the kingdom of God will have a measure of control over killer hurricanes like Irene and Katrina; whereas now, man is totally at the mercy of nature's fury.
