Don't the Scriptures tell us that the message of the cross is an offense to those who are perishing?

Why would the birth of the one who brings us the message of the cross be any different in their eyes?

As far as 'how' a believer should respond. I'd use the opportunity to ask if they wanted to know the real reason for Christmas. If they responded yes, I would tell them. If they responded no, I'd tell them to have a merry Christmas.

We are always to be prepared to give an answer for our hope 'to those who ask'.
