Chromebooks

I have been doing a lot of research on Chromebooks lately:

1) The average Chromebook lasts just under ten hours on its battery. The worst one lasted over 7 hours.
2) With 2 gigs of RAM, a Chromebook begins having trouble when there are ten tabs open.
3) Chrome and Android, between them, are on more devices than Windows.

Hmmm! I need to correct what I have been saying now for about five years then. That puts windoze in the number two slot and Ubuntu, though still growing in popularity, in the number three slot. People do love the security of the Unix/Linux/Apple Kernel. Thanks for the update.

It is, they are now writting the Operating System using the, very safe, Linux/Unix/Mac kernel. See, you're right. Of course it could have meant the Chrome Radiator Grill on the 39 Ford Coup, very cool Rum Runner vehicle.
 
Okay, I THINK I have the counting methods figured out.

Internet counters are able to tell which OS you're using. They can tell if you are using a "computer," but cannot distinguish between a desktop and a laptop. Almost 90% of all "computers" in the world are using some version of Windows. At almost half, Windows 7 is the most popular "computer" OS, with Windows 10 in second place.

These counters can also tell if you are using a "device." Like a "computer," a "device" contains a CPU, but its primary purpose is to communicate, not compute. Smart phones, tablets, Chromebooks, etc., are "devices." Android is the most popular "device" OS, and Chrome is second.

Overall, Windows is the most popular operating system, followed by Android and then Chrome. However, Android and Chrome combined seem to slightly outnumber Windows. Google developed Chrome and bought Android (and then continued to develop it).

I'm trying to learn the Central american flavors of Spanish through Duolingo vand it measures on somme dumb format the pretends to measure percentages.
 
I found out today why people buy big, expensive Chromebooks with large hard drives.

You can't install Chrome on a Windows machine, but you can install Windows on a Chromebook. But because a Chromebook isn't designed for windows, you need the extra power to muscle the Windows OS through. And because Chrome is based on the Linux kernel, you can run Linux on a Chromebook better than on a Windows PC.

That's why.

See, smarty pants, I did not understand the why of some of the very expensive Chromebooks! At seventy-one you are forcing me to learn!

Honest though, I did not know that. I built a Linux machine for a man my age a few years back because he wanted to learn how to use it. His son-in-law worked as an Apple Salesman and convinced him not to run Linux on his 220 dollar, customized for Linux machine without the latest Windows, Vista, as the OS.

I charged him the cost only and made nothing from the build on the grounds of nothing more than phone or email support.

He screamed, he cursed and he refused to reinstall the Ubuntu Operating System that had worked perfectly and demanded that he keep the machine and that I return the cost of the parts because the Computer Tech he went to told him he would upgrade te m,achine to run Vista for $150 more and I owed it to him because his son-in-law, a salesman, told him I had ripped him off because I had built exactly what he ordered and I should have known better.

And so much for a friendship lost. People can be strange and people my age can be really strange.
 
You know, Bill, I've noticed on this and other threads that Christians enjoy sharing their knowledge of different operating systems, without fighting each other. I enjoy your friendship and I read all your posts.
