Cinco de "Mayo"

Well, since it isn't a state holiday I don't have a problem with it either, except that people drink to excess. They do for all holidays, imagine one specifically revolving around tequila!

Oops! There's an "all of" and an "also"! My bad! My point was that at the end of the day pretty much everyone celebrating it does so for one of two reasons...

1) They are wishing to celebrate their Mexican heritage.
2) They are wishing to have an excuse to drink alcohol.

Working in a grocery store I can assure you that our alcohol sales spiked wicked high on both the Friday (4th) before and that Saturday (5th). Further, I find it very striking that this is a holiday celebrated only in one of the Mexican providences, and it mostly an American holiday. That to me means someone is just looking for an excuse to drink alcohol :shame

Like in football and baseball season? And the word is provinces. It is "mostly an American holiday" because most of the 'province' is here. Except in Arizona of course.

My objection to the facetious posts is that somehow it is "okay" to mock Cinco de Mayo (pronounced MY-e-oh, not Mayo, for the single tongued on this board). This thread shows much disrespect for Americans of Mexican descent as well as Mexicans who still live in Mexico. Since the greater part of my family is of Mexican descent, it offends me personally to see that a Mexican holiday can be shown such contempt when the politically correct wouldn't have the nerve to insult, say a Muslim holiday, for instance.

Just want these mockers to know Mexicans are no laughing matter.
