Cleansing The Church of the Godhead
Many people today look to the story of Jesus Christ cleansing the temple of the all the moneychangers as a moral victory against greed and corruption. But it goes deeper than that. Consider that when Jesus Christ threw out all of the moneychangers in the temple the whole Godhead was present. You had God the Father present, as his spirit was in the Holy of Holies (hint: Ark of the Covenant) deep inside the temple. Then you had God's son in human form as Jesus Christ. And within Jesus Christ you had the Holy Spirit that descended upon Jesus Christ at his baptism by John the Baptist.
When Jesus Christ thew out all the moneychangers the whole Godhead was present on earth at that exact moment! And yet, they (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) were unable to effectuate any change in the greed and corruption of the temple leaders! The moral corruption of the temple leaders continued even after all the moneychangers were thrown out. In fact, the corrupt temple leaders eventually succeeded in placing Jesus Christ (who is God as God the son in human form) on trial which led to Christ's crucification and death.
The real moral of the story of Jesus Christ cleansing the temple is that today's church leaders are replicating the corrupt temple priests in Christ's age in that they will engage in selling immoral acts, such as homosexuality, as a righteous pursuit of godliness. Today's church leaders, both secular and evangelical, will exchange man's immoral pursuits for the money it generates in the collection plate and offer up a sermon of moral equivocation.
Again, at the cleansing of the temple by Jesus Christ, you had the whole Godhead present (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) and yet there was no change in the corruption of the church leaders. Today we have the same corruption of the church as it was in Christ's time as our corrupt church leaders advocate for the moral equivalence of societal sins such as homosexuality, promiscuity, abortion, single parent families, etc.
Another point worth mentioning about the cleansing of the temple is that, as Christians, our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and, as such, the presence of the Holy Spirit WILL NOT cleanse the body of its wickedness in the same way that the cleansing of the temple by Jesus Christ did not change anything afterward. The cleansing of the temple by Jesus Christ demonstrates that our flesh is corrupt beyond repair and this world cannot be a kingdom that can be ruled by the Godhead.
Whenever someone becomes a believer in Jesus Christ they are assured that upon death they will be given a new body that can never be corrupted by sin and that God will finally be able to rule over his kingdom without our corrupt earthly flesh becoming a focal point for moral capitulation by our church leaders.
John 18:36 King James Version (KJV)
36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
God Bless
