Do you think a person can be too confident?

This one word doesn't help because I have no definition or example of what cocky means to you.

When I think of that word this is what I see.
The 8 year old boy on his bicycle, he's gotten really good with that bike he can even do wheelies.
So now he gets cocky, over confident in his abilities, and decides he's ready for 4' jumps because he has mastered wheelies. No lower jump practice is required. Yike, there's a big difference between doing a wheelie and landing on a back tire from several feet in the air without busting ones patutous.
He got cocky.

Sometimes they can be show offs. That can get people in trouble.

I know Peter meant well but ,or mayby He was just a very brave guy wanting show the rest of the desciples on board the boat exactly how to charge in all gung ho,Im not sure(walking on water).Matthew 14:22-31.Maybe he thought like a Gummy Bear "I can doo this".
Christ must have read Peters true motives because why would Christ almost rebuke Peter for not having "faith" instead of complimenting or thanking Peter for trying to save Christ. This tells me that Peter was showing off a bit there ;and Christ sees through it.The lesson for us all being ,Confidence or a strong self-image is not a bad thing , its just that it must be blended with Christlike motives in the service of God ,I believe not to "edify" the self above the Word and Will of God.
At that stage Peter might have thought he must save the promised Messiah(Politition) at all costs ,who has come to save them from the Romans.Almost like a Presidents bodyguard "takes the bullet" no matter what.
Well obviously Peter got it wrong then , but like us all, grew to see the real purpose of Christ through all our weaknesses and mistakes.

Confidence is a good thing. It helps you to move through an unfamiliar or daunting situation. It's courage to face the world. Cockiness is when confidence becomes arrogance, thinking that you're better than you are, or that you should receive special treatment. I love confidence in a woman, it is indeed very sexy (even moreso than some physical attributes). Arrogance, on the other hand, is a major turn-off.

Yes,a healthy amount of confidence is a good thing.

"You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you."

But having clouds in your coffee would be awesome, wouldn't it? :lol

The person i n the song though is not confident at all. The person in the song needs to boast about vain and shallow stuff because he's not confident at all. True confidence is quiet, relaxed and calm. Truely confident people pay little attention to their ego because they don't need to. They can calmly focus on real important tasks, or truely care about other people, or just enjoy life. Confident people are very plesant to be around. There is no such thing as too much confidence. If you encounter inapprobriate overconfidence in someone then you know they do, in fact, have no confidence at all on the inside.

imo
I think you are correct in many cases and yes quiet, relaxed, and calm people are pleasant to be around. It's also true that they may be confident people who pay little attention to their ego. When the fact is their ego may need some looking at.
The truly confident person will exam their ego to determine it's condition.
A person with a healthy confidence is not afraid to look at who they are and examine themselves. Someone can become overly confident and fail to see and meet the need in others or more importantly their need for a Savior.

Yes, I do think that you can become too confident. When you think you have all the answers, and leave no room for God's wisdom. When your confidence displaces the Word, you have offically become too confident.
