Matthew 7: 21-23,
21) “Not everyone who calls me ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only those who do what my father in heaven wants them to do. When the Judgement Day comes, many will say to me, “Lord, Lord, in your name we spoke God’s message, by your name we drove out many demons and performed miracles.â€Â
23) Then I will say to them, I never knew you. Get away from me, you wicked people!’â€Â
Doesn’t this seem a little strange? We can be good people and have the chance of everlasting life removed from us, be condemned, and all because of the word “knew.†Think of all the other words that He could have said. It would have been more appropriate for Him to say that because of our sins, apostasy, religion, prayer, faith, love, grace, work, or a combination of these, or a lack thereof, we will not have eternal life. This is most troubling and could be one of the most significant things Christ has said. This word “knew†seems out of place or at least out of context.
This is one question that must be asked.
How will He know you? or How will He know us?
