Bible Study Could Paul At One Time Have Been Married ?

Lewis

Member
Paul at one time could have been married, because he was part of the Sanheadrin, did I spell that word right ? But anyway one of the requirements was that, If I can remember correctly, was that you at least had to be 34 or 36 years old, and married. Why married, because it was considered honorable . And his wife could have died. We don't know for sure if the man was married or not, But a lot of people think that he was at one time.

Personally I think it is definately possible....

But I think his wife maybe divorced him after reading this verse.....

1 Corinthians 14:34 (New International Version)

34women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says.

If I tried that on my girlfriend or even my mom.....

(shudders....)

I dont even want to think about it.........

Question: "Was the Apostle Paul married?"

Answer: The Bible never says whether Paul was married or not. Some think that he was at one time based on what he said in 1 Corinthians 9:5, "Don't we have the right to take a believing wife along with us, as do the other apostles and the Lord's brothers and Cephas?" If Paul was married at one time, his wife likely passed away considering he never mentions her in any of his writings. Paul declared that he had the gift of celibacy in 1 Corinthians 7:1-7.

Some believe that the Apostle Paul was married because history tells us that a member of the Sanhedrin was required to be married. However, Paul never stated that he was a member of the Sanhedrin. He definitely seemed to be on the path, "I was advancing in Judaism beyond many Jews of my own age and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers" (Galatians 1:14). However, Paul might not have advanced that far before He converted to Christ. So, was the Apostle Paul married? It is possible that he was at one time, but again, the Bible does not specifically say.

Either way-Paul was some kind of man...with the capability of reducing the scholar of his day (and those that fancy themselves educated in the Greek/Hebrew of today) to a bowl of oatmeal.

No I don't know anything more, but it is an interesting topic. I'll be sure to ask Him next time I see him.
Have you seen him yet Bones ? :D :-D

I can't see that it would make a difference, one way or the other.

More importantly, in my view, is misinterpreting the scriptures in even small, seemingly insignificant areas.

My Bible tells me that Paul said that he was a Pharisee, and the son of a Pharisee, not a Sadducee.

I'm not sure, but I'm thinking that it was the Sadducee's which comprised the Sanhedrim, the council of seventy elders, not Pharisee's.

Please correct me if I'm wrong!
