There are some users here who whenever a scripture is posted contrary to their opinion use the fact of context.

this is fine however when you say one thing doesn't apply to you because of context you have to be very careful....

if the words were only directed to a certain group who is no longer prevalent then forget about anything you read in the Bible

Context has very little say in what applies to us

If we are sinful and the message is directed to the sinful read it that way....

if the problem is the meaning of a verse context can help....

but if that's the case we'll have to do that for every verse

if context matters then a lot of people are getting it wrong

Context matters because people can take things out of context and misuse and misapply scripture to suit them in whichever ways they want.

Don't you see that?

Context does matter.

Example:

A preacher says:

"And Judas went and hanged himself."

"Go thou and do likewise."

???:sad

Jesus says turn the other cheek

i tell this to a man about to fight another man

he says "no, it doesn't apply because he was talking to first century jews only; you have to keep it in context"

-----

see what i mean?

We should do a study on turning the other cheek. It doesn't mean what everyone thinks it means. Why? Hebraic cultural context.
