why do we as humans have an innate desire to debate/argue.

why do you think we desire to know and grow in information?

Oats I think you know the answer to this you seem very knowledgeable. When Adam ate from the tree of knowledge he received wisdom. We received free will.
Hmmm this actually creates a paradox when I think about about it because Adam must have already had a choice ie free will.
Any how it would be a boring world if we all agreed with one another and of course this would be impossible

with regard to feeling the need to argue your point embrace apathy a bit, it will serve you well and save you a lot of heartache.
respecting others opinions too no matter how different from your own does too.

there is 2 seperate things. One is the desire to debate to actually gain knowledge (which is rare) which is a good thing because the bible is very blunt about not being "lukewarm" or staying infants....
the other is the prideful desire to be right, that is just part of human nature hence the reason we see people so quick to rip other people about how wrong they are and how right they are (which i have already experienced here....)

This is an easy one for me. Our sin nature takes over and the desire to be right clouds our judgment and desire to be humble. You see, free will is overrated. :lol

If we allow God to make these decisions for us and not rely on our own understanding, we will know when it's time to shut up and walk away.
