Deborah was a prophetess, a judge over Israel and a military leader. Deborah served as a judge over Israel at the "palm tree od Deborah" in southern Ephraim between Ramah and Bethel. She was referred to as the mother of Israel because people would come to her for judgment. Deborah was also the prophetic leader in the battle against the Canaanite oppression against Israel.

Judges 4:1-24

Vs. 1-3 Israel rebelled against God again and God allowed them to be sold into the hand of Jabin, king of Canaan. (James 1:13,14)

Vs. 4 Deborah was a prophetess whom God spoke to concerning the people of Israel and God set her in judgment over them.

Vs.6-7 this is the prophecy that God spoke to Deborah for Israel against the enemy.

Vs. 8,9 Barak knew that God spoke through Deborah and needed her spiritual guidance through the battle to defeat the enemy. Deborah also gave Barak a warning not to go into battle and fight his way, but to give glory to the Lord and that the enemy would be delivered over to the hand of Deborah as she was an obedient servant to the Lord.

Vs. 10-16 Deborah and Barak led their army to Mt.Tabor which was on higher ground so they could see the army of Sisera come up by the way of the Kishon River. Deborah told them that the Lord would go before them and deliver all the enemy army into their hands.

amen - great thread

Thank you Truthfrees. She was a mighty warrior for the Lord. They need to make a movie about her.

She was a mother who stood in the face of oppression and as a true mother she cared much for Israel.

Was there a battle ? Or what happened ? How did God work to deliver the enemy

Was there a battle ? Or what happened ? How did God work to deliver the enemy

This was the Battle of Mount Tabor between the Canaanite forces of the king of Hazor and the Israelite army led by Barak and Deborah in the mid 12th century BC. The army under the command of Sisera outnumbered greatly that of Israel's army. God delivered the enemy into the hands of the Israelites by causing it to rain so hard it soaked the ground slowing the Canaanites chariots as they tried to ride through the mud. Barak's army attacked from Mount Tabor and the Canaanites started losing their strength as Barak's army kept pursuing them until all the Canaanites were killed.
