Bible Study Define: Study

Often times I read on these forums, "I'm currently studying the book of Romans" or "I'm in a study of 1 Corinthians."

My question to you, how do you define study? What do you personally do when you study a chapter? What other tools besides your bible (or what other translations) do you use?

I read a huge family (KJV) Bible, and it contains a concordance, maps, notes, etc. etc. etc.... So when I read Scripture, I often "study" what I'm reading.

Over the years my study of the word has changed allot. Still it is hard to beat my old trusty KJV Thompson chain reference bible....Trully I believe that study bible is the standard by which all other study bibles are measured against....I will read say Romans, and follow the chain reference....I tend to stay away from internet study sources other than blue letter bible or crosswalk because most offer too much biased opinion....

Perhaps people can start to post ''their'' favorite online study links....

I will start with my two

Philosophy & Theology
================

Although the above all have elements of both philosophy and theology, I don't know about a site entirely and heavily dedicated to them. I don't suggest looking to St.Thomas Aquinas or any other old theologians for theology because you'll be deeply disappointed.

Awesome! This is what I was hoping for.

I have been seriously thinking about picking up a KJV study bible to suppliment my NIV Study bible.

Protos, thanks for the links!

I also like to use http://www.zhubert.com/ I cannot read Greek mind you, but I like having the reference for when I'm looking for something deeper from a specific passage.

Hi Fnerb,

I use the NASB and a matching concordance.

The basic tool is the concordance. Word studies are good. On the odd occasion I use internet to see what other translations say.

Try the Companion Bible, Bullinger is the best of the best.

This is a good point. When I try to read the bible for the simple enjoyment of it, I find myself studying and picking it apart....This is a habit I have to break...

I have been going through the OT with my 7 year old twins and they don't help my habit of picking the bible apart because they ask the toughest questions...
Questions that most adults would not think of or are embarrassed to admit...
I have been in both of those situations....
