Fat Tuesday is the literal English translation for “Mardi Gras†– the huge festival that New Orleans, Louisiana is famous for.

What is a paczki?
A paczki (pronounced “Poonch-keyâ€Â) is a Polish donut. It uses a richer batter than traditional donuts. These donuts are traditionally filled with raspberry or prune filling although a huge variety of other fillings are now available. Hamtramck, a small Polish city within Detroit, is where the authentic Polish bakeries are located and thousands of metro Detroiters travel to Hamtramck every year on Fat Tuesday to indulge. In Detroit, Fat Tuesday is so named for the oil and shortening found in paczkis that Christian Poles so often give up for Lent.

Never heard of them, but they sound like my kind of treat! :smt016

Wow: this just brought back such great memories of my Polish neighbours of @ 28 years when I was little

We lived on a main road, & this family from JP2's home town, Krakow, lived in the small cul-de-sac behind

We always let them step over our fence & walk thru our long back garden, to save 'em @ 20 minutes getting the buses to work/school

They had a Downes Syndrome son & everyone admired how well they cared for him & worked so hard

I had Krakow colleagues @ 8/9 years ago, when I had 2 summers with farmstaff agencies in Southport

Youth teams from the 18 Southport Evangelical Churche Together have been going on yearly missions to help Krakow area evangelical churches for years now

Someone said on God TV, just 1/2 days ago, that there have been many folk born again & Spirit-filled right across E Europe in the past few years

Did you see David Hathaway from http://www.propheticvision.org preach & pray for healing miracles?

If you hit that site & click healings, you'll see many testimonies, medically attested of God's miracles in supposedly incurable illnesses & conditions, inc cancers, tumours & multiple injuries from accidents, all healed thru Biblical prayer with laying-on-of-hands

Anyway, all the Poles I've ever met have been hard workers: I'll sure look out for those Polish cakes

Happy Mardi Gras!

God bless!

Ian

Yes! I like paczki a lot. I am not from Detroit, but we have paczki here in New York!

Have a blessed Lent ('Lent' is 'Post' in Polish)

PRAISED BE JESUS CHRIST (in Slovak)

Ahh, Thanks Steve!

You have no idea how many languages I tried running that through without any luck! LOL!! Now i know he he he

Anyway, I was so stuffed with goodies on tuesday, I didn't even want to eat dinner I was so full... Yeah yeah, I was guilty of glutony, but at a buck 50, I don't think it'll cause any long term issues LOL

Ohh btw, I could really tell a big difference between the paczki's that were brought up from the polish bakeries and the counterfiet jelly filled doghnuts
