"I said I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me."
At times, rather many times, we are tempted to "answer" when attacked verbally. trading "darts of fire" for our own "darts of fire."
Don't they deserve it? we may ask ourselves. I our mind's eye we say yes, yet taking the example of Yeshua when He was on the cross, "opened not his mouth" Even though the executioners deserved a curse, He forgave them.
If our ways tend to be a bit aggressive, we must "hold our tongue" for the sake of "shalom" aggressive answers will only contribute to more aggression. When does it stop? We need to ignore all the &%*&(()%!!! since words will not stop our hearts. The wicked are not in tune with our Heavenly Father, yet if we show patience and endurance when the verbal atmosphere is charged, we will be positive witnesses for our LORD and God.
