Did Christ Resurrect with the same Body? (For Heidi)

Heidi, on another forum you wrote:

Christ's flesh is gone. It rotted way thousands of years ago

This was, according to you, your Spirit guided interpretation of Holy Scripture.

This caused quite a stir among some of us, as you accussed our view of a matieral resurrection as unbiblical. However, I came across this today in the book of Acts:
"He [David} seeing what was ahead spoke of the resurrection of Christ, that he was not abandoned to the grave, nor did his body see decay". Acts 2:31

Any comments?

I'd be interested in seeing the original version (or the closest thing to it) and taking a look at the word or phrase used for decay. I've always believed that Christ rose from the dead with the same body. ::shrug:: I can't say I've ever thought about it otherwise. Maybe he didn't rise from the dead with the same body, but I seriously doubt that.

Hello Packrat:

Do you not agree that the Scriptures describe the resurrected Jesus as having body that is "similar yet different" to our present bodies. He ate (like we do) but also seemed to magically appear in a room (which we do not do).

I think that a recurrent theme in Scripture is this: the new creation that God will perform in the future, and of which Jesus is the first fruits, will be both continuous with the present world and yet transformed. So, I suggest, it will be with our resurrection bodies.

I believe that's accurate. Jesus had the holes in his hands, feet, and side when he ressurected, and I believe also so when he ascended. Jesus, I believe, still has those holes as an eternal testimony, but He has a glorified body, and Jesus will be glorified above all. But do notice Jesus is still called the "Son of Man" when he comes again. He still has the marks of his blessed sacrifice on earth with him, he truely is both the Son of Man and Son of God.

God Bless,

~Josh

I agree with Cybershark on this one. Christ resurrected with the same body, but he did not have a body like ours because we are not born from a virgin and the Holy Spirit. As to his seeming teleportation, that could be an outside effect acting upon his body due to the Holy Spirit or the Father. It doesn't have to mean that his body was able to teleport by itself. :)

When one says "the same body" what are you referring to? The same exact flesh? Likeness?

I would suggest that Christ was resurrected with a glorified body, just as we will be as well.

I believe that it will have similiar characterists that make "me" me - just without the spare tire, scares, and I will have a two good "knees".

However, we should remember it wasn't until Christ permitted it, that those on the road where able to recognize who He was.

I have been under the opinion that Jesus rose in the same body he died in. The Bible says as much in Luke:
Luk 24:39 Behold My hands and My feet, that I am He! Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see Me have.
Luk 24:40 And when He had spoken this, He showed them His hands and feet.
Luk 24:41 And while they still did not believe for joy, and wondered, He said to them, Have you any food here?
Luk 24:42 And they handed to Him a piece of a broiled fish and of a honeycomb.
Luk 24:43 And He took it and ate before them.

Hi Christine.

John has a similar account:

John 20:25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
John 20:26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
John 20:27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
