Did You Know?

Did you know:

That the phrase "immortal soul" occurs nowhere in scripture?

Did you know:

That the phrase "eternal torment" occurs nowhere in scripture?

Did you know:

That the single word "Hell" in a King James Version is translated from three different Greek words, and one Hebrew word?

Did you know:

That the word translated "Hell" in the Old Testament is always translated from the Hebrew word sheol which is translated 29 other times as "grave", and 3 other times as "pit"?

Did you know:

That the Bible nowhere says that "Hell is a lake of fire"?

Did you know:

That the Bible nowhere says that those in hell "weep and gnash their teeth"?

Did you know:

That the Bible speaks of many "unquenchable fires" in the past which are not currently burning?

Did you know:

That when Jesus spoke of "unquenchable fires" and "undying worms", he was quoting from Isaiah 66:24 in which the fire and worms feed on dead bodies, not immortal souls?

Did you know:

That the Bible says that souls can bleed, souls can be hit with swords, souls hunger, souls thirst, and that souls can die?

Did you know:

That the Bible also calls animals "souls"?

Did you know:

That the Bible nowhere says "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord"?

Did you know:

That the apostle Paul never used the word "Hell" one time in all his writings?

Did you know:

That the Bible nowhere says that Jesus died to save us from Hell?

Well then you will not have to worry about eternal punishment until you get there. :D

Solo is practically a walking case study in cognitive dissonance.

Everything you said above is the truth. Most Christians would almost stake their lives merely to support outright lies. Such is the grasp of unquestioned fable/tradition on the human mind. Unlike the horse, a human being certainly CAN be led to water and MADE to drink ...over and over and over again!

And didja know that the phrase, "ask Jesus into your heart" or "give your heart to the Lord" appears nowhere in scripture.

And neither are we taught (nor is there even an example given to us) of people repeating the "sinners prayer".

Oooh ...this is all too much. We should lock the church door, go home, dig out the Bible (and IT alone) and start again. :smt036

I did know all of it except for this
That when Jesus spoke of "unquenchable fires" and "undying worms", he was quoting from Isaiah 66:24 in which the fire and worms feed on dead bodies, not immortal souls?
But now that I know, I agree with it aswell.

Fundamentals dip us in the water for water baptism. But do not blow-torch us for the baptism of "fire". Oh no, that fire is not literal? How come? Fire is literal for the unbeliever but not the believer?

Um ...TanNinety ...you aren't listening. Or, maybe I'm not. Are you talking about baptism here or eternal hell-fire?

In any event, I don't think that ANYONE has said that the fire at the end of time is NOT literal. They HAVE said, however, that it is NOT a fire that lasts for a literal eternity. It is unquenchable (cannot be put out) but it WILL go out by itself when it has completed it's job. Ever see a fire that is beyond human effort to extingish? The same principle is in effect here. Ever see a fire that didn't eventually go out all by itself? Again, the same principle applies here. If I missed your point then feel free to bite me. ;-)

Bites ya Sputnik :-D

May be I should have worded myself a little different. How about:
Did you know?

Not all FIRES in the bible are literal fires.
I have no problems accepting a literal lake of fire which is unquenchable according to the definition you have put up. But perhaps you can care to tell me how exactly "death and hades" when thrown in this fire are burnt up? Non-physical things being thrown into the literal fire?

I know what you are saying though. "Burning wicked for a while is more humane than burning them forever"

Very subtle twisting & misquoting here..

in the style of the serpent in the Garden of Eden in Genesis 3 ...

Genesis 3
The Fall of Man
1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?"
2 The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.' "

4 "You will not surely die," the serpent said to the woman. 5 "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the LORD God called to the man, "Where are you?"

10 He answered, "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid."

11 And he said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?"

12 The man said, "The woman you put here with meâ€â€she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it."

13 Then the LORD God said to the woman, "What is this you have done?"
The woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate."

14 So the LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this,
"Cursed are you above all the livestock
and all the wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
and you will eat dust
all the days of your life.

15 And I will put enmity
between you and the woman,
and between your offspring [a] and hers;
he will crush your head,
and you will strike his heel."

Do see Matthew 13

9He who has ears, let him hear."
10The disciples came to him and asked, "Why do you speak to the people in parables?"

11He replied, "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. 12Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. 13This is why I speak to them in parables:
"Though seeing, they do not see;
though hearing, they do not hear or understand. 14In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:
" 'You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.
15For this people's heart has become calloused;
they hardly hear with their ears,
and they have closed their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts
and turn, and I would heal them.'[a] 16But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. 17For I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

18"Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: 19When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path. 20The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away. 22The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful. 23But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown."

The Parable of the Weeds
24Jesus told them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. 26When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.
27"The owner's servants came to him and said, 'Sir, didn't you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?'

28" 'An enemy did this,' he replied.
"The servants asked him, 'Do you want us to go and pull them up?'

29" 'No,' he answered, 'because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them. 30Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.' "

The Parables of the Mustard Seed and the Yeast
31He told them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. 32Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches."
33He told them still another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into a large amount of flour until it worked all through the dough."

34Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable. 35So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet:
"I will open my mouth in parables,
I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world."[c]

The Parable of the Weeds Explained
36Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, "Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field."
37He answered, "The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. 38The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, 39and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.

40"As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. 41The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.

Jesus expressed, in several ways, in several parables there, the truth of eternal, conscious torment

& look at Revelation 20 @ the UNholy trinity of Satan, the Antichrist & the False Prophet being cast into the Lake of Fire to be tormented forever...

together with all who reject the glorious good news gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ & follow the enemy of souls/great deceiver/father of lies/destroyer..

Satan's Doom
7When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison 8and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earthâ€â€Gog and Magogâ€â€to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore. 9They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God's people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them. 10And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
The Dead Are Judged
11Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. 14Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

As I waited for this public PC to start me up in its slow way, I read Acts 16-17 again, as I had on the bus here - (not in the slightest deterred by the Muslim lad on the next PC - I always put Man's Maker's Manual - the Bible - beside me on the desk & there's never been any objection in all the 4.5 years I've been using public PCs to make me Global Go-Getter for VIPER VERMIN - (Veritably International Presentations, Education & Research of Versatile Ministries)

“… in the day of salvation I will help you; I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people …†Isaiah 49:8

Anyway, here's that final Word I read in Acts 17:-

30In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. 31For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead."

For any readers confused @ the 1-&-only way of salvation, do see John 3 & Romans 3 & Galatians 2:15-16 & Ephesians 2:8-9

It's by the sheer grace of God, thru faith in Christ's once-for-all atoning sacrifice on Calvary's cross, to which you will see Good Friday Walk of Witness followed by open-air proclamation of the Good News in most UK towns
