Trade Unions and charities are calling for an extra bank holiday to encourage more people to volunteer in their communities.
They want the holiday to be held in October and say it should be used to stage community activities.
The organisations claim the day would also be a chance to celebrate the unpaid work already done across the UK.
They say it should appeal to Gordon Brown, who has said he would like a national day to celebrate Britishness.
