Creator God made many wonderful things, including the animals. Will there be animals in heaven?

I believe Revelation talks about the lion and the lamb lying with one another in Heaven. I'm not sure about animals going to heaven, but I am fairly certain that animals will be in heaven.

Does the following scripture apply to animals?

Romans 8:19-22, "For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now."

I couldn't find it in Revelations...but I think its talking about the 1000 year reign of Christ and not heaven. I could be wrong, I never really put much thought into it.

Animals are not capable of sin, so they won't be in hell. There is no mention of animals in heaven from my reading. I think that this:

is actually in Isaiah 11, if that is what you were thinking about. Try about verse 6 or so.

My thoughts also revolve around a verse that I read somewhere else in Isaiah, where it says something like we won't even remember the former world when we are in heaven. So if people are wanting to take their dogs and cats to heaven with them, they need to realize that if we did remember this world when we are in heaven, we would probably be consumed with greif over the lost family members that didn't make it in.

Scofield,

Perhaps the real question is: will Bingo be in heaven or just other created animals? Maybe we should seperate different animals being in heaven from our pets going to heaven.

I don't see how they couldn't be. God created them. They don't sin. BUT, they are a huge benefit to us. Look at how smart animals are. They are capable of so many things. They have saved lives. They are EYES for the blind. They are joy for the elderly that have gone back to having the mind of a 2 year old.

I sure hope there are animals in heaven. I love animals.

Have you ever read the book 'Dog Heaven'???

What was the purpose of animals? Why did God make them?

Animals serve many uses and I believe God created them for unique purposes. Should a creature die, carnivours would dispose of the carcass. Birds and fish control the bug population. Worms nuture soil. And the dung beetle, well...

What I don't understand is, "Why the mosquito?" hehe

I appreciate everyone's thoughts on the matter. My pastor, and my wife, do not believe that there will be animals in heaven. I do because of this description from the Bible;

Revelation 19:11-14, "And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean."

I found this helpful. Some of the passages have already been mentioned. My own position? Similar to this post (although I am not Lutheran).

Q. My four-year-old son wants to know if he will see his dog when he dies and goes to heaven. Will he? Do I tell him that even though God created all the animals too, people are the only ones that go to heaven?

A. In the "Q&A" column of the January 1995 issue of the "Northwestern Lutheran" (the official periodical of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod), Rev. John Brug gives the following helpful response to the question, "Will there be animals in heaven?"

Since animals do not have immortal souls, we might think the answer is no. Several facts, however, make one hesitant to be satisfied with a simple "no." Our eternal home is a new earth (Isaiah 65:17ff, 2 Peter 3:13, Revelation 21:1). Isaiah 65:25 speaks of it as a place in which the wolf and the lamb live together peacefully.

This may be figurative language, but one other passage suggests animals might be in our eternal home. Romans 8:21 says that "the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage." In this present, sin-cursed world, we inflict suffering on animals, and they inflict suffering on us. At Christ's coming, when this world is freed from the effects of sin, animals, too, will be freed from suffering.

That text also says the creation will be "brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God." That might mean there may be plants and animals in the new earth as there were in the first earth. If there are animals on the new earth, they will be good creatures of God as the animals of the first earth were.

In short, the answer is a cautious "maybe."

Thanks, Gary. Just to clarify, I'm not trying to imply that anyone's pet will be reunited with them in heaven, just that animals, in general, will be there.
