Do you have a life verse?

Mine is Ecclesiastes 12:13b "Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man." (KJV)

S:

I love Ecclesiastes; and when it's read with the New Testament, it makes a lot more sense than in isolation, I think. (E.g., the Lord Jesus 'of God is made unto us wisdom' etc; Paul to the Corinthians.)

I certainly agree. Ecclesiastes is my favorite OT book and it really helps to mine its wisdom to know it is a part of a whole--not just a stand-alone document.

Having been an abused child and now a mom of kids who were taken out of their birth homes due to abuse and neglect, I find that Romans 8:28 to be so relevant in life:

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

God's promise to always work out all things for our ultimate good is an important one to remember. :yes

It's hard limiting it to one verse, but I'd say mine is:

"Whom have I in heaven but you?
And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you."
- Psalm 73:25

N: I like the next verse, too: 'My flesh and my heart faileth, but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever'.

Yeah. The whole of Psalm 73 is awesome. :thumbsup

Nick: I like the 'But God' in Psalm 73, and the 'But God' in the middle of Ephesians 2, also. Seems like, for the believer, God, even in the midst of dire circumstances, intervenes in grace; it is His wondrous way.

Blessings.

Do you have a life verse from the bible which seems to be the one verse that states what you want to be for God?
When I was searching to "find out what pleases the Lord" (Ephesians 5:10 NIV1984) God used this and other scriptures to guide me into what pleases him and fulfills his will for me:

"17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, 18 because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men." (Romans 14:17-18 NIV1984)

The kingdom isn't about the religious externals. It's about who you are in character. That is a 'religioin' that pleases God, fulfilling his will for us, and a 'religion' that is respected by the world.

Mine changes as I grow and learn, right now...

Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

grace and peace

jgnov99:

There is certainly a lot of encouraging doctrinal meat in Galatians for the believer's sustenance and strength.
