Do you know your spiritual gifts?

heather

Member
And how do you put them into practice?

I found out yesterday that I have 3 being gifts and 2 doing gifts. They are as follows:
Being:
Teacher
Prophet
Shepherd

Doing:
Faith
Working Miracles

If you really have these gifts then you already know how to put them into practice.

The knowing comes with having.

That's something we talked about today in church. The thing with spiritual gifts is that you simply use them. However, using them isn't just snapping your fingers and blam, you have used them. Especially with something like teaching. When I teach, I put about 1 hour of prep work into for every 15 minutes of teaching. And, I'm not so sure about the prophet thing...that was a shock for me.

How did you "find out" about your gifts, Heather?

I have the gift of teaching and the words just come. I never have to prepare except to be obedient.

Fembot,

I took a 200 question test by a guy named Kinghorn. The book was only a couple bucks and the questions go quickly. You just have to be totally honest with your answers. Most people have a spiritual gifts grouping.

And walter,

With teaching, I have to be prepared with scripture (which is a prophet thing...to always seek the truth) but when I start writing my words down, my pen just moves for me. That's also what happens when I give advice on here...my fingers just start typing. I don't really think about what I'm typing because it is not from me.

Heather,
I wasn't questioning YOU having your gifts but I have had it up to here (indicating the top of my head) with people that go around scamming Christians with their little "words of knowledge" or whatever. Pardon me if I'm skeptical at times.
Please though, I am sincere in this: Beware of anything outside of yourself and God when it comes to your spiritual well being. Please be very careful who you trust and believe. As far as I know there is no test as to whether you have spiritual gifts or not. I have seen too many scam artists masquerading as men of God and it sickens me to see the harm they do to trusting souls.
That is not to say your case is one of these. I am sure you are intelligent and discerning and it is not my place to put any stumbling block in your path.

I'm sorry if you thought I was questioning you. I was simply letting you know that for me, I must spend time in the Word before I teach. I also believe that if you have Christ in your heart and are living in the Spirit, then you have a spiritual gift. It's God's way of ensuring that His will is done within the body.

Very good. No, I thought maybe you thought I was doubting your gifts. I wasn't. I'm happy for you and glad you understand that the word is alive and not something that you have to prepare if it's really in your heart.

:) :) :)

Well, those things happen to me too. But I just call myself a helpful, sharp person. I guess it's worth seeing what label I'd fall under.

The simple test of a prophet is...if your prophecy doesn't come true...it's not of God. That's right in the OT. I would be very careful about accepting everything some well meaning Christians have told you. No offense intended, but God also expects us not to act as novices, but be wise and discerning.
I think I would practice a word of exhortation (edification) first.
Remember one thing. If your gifts are really true. The closer you are to God...the more He expects.
There are many fraudulent workers out there. You should spend time in much prayer. No putdowns intended.
P.S. the greatest spiritual gift you can desire, is leading others to Christ.

Automatic writing
"Automatic writing is essentially writing that is done in an altered state of consciousness that is attributed to spirits of the dead. It is believed by some that the spirits literally manipulate the writing utensil in the hands of the medium to communicate, as the writer is often unaware of what is being written and often even scrawls out text in handwriting that is markedly different than his own."

Careful. Line it up with Scripture. Did anyone in the Bible "auto-write"?

Prophecy:
Gen 15:1 After these things the word of Jehovah came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

1Sa 15:10 Then came the word of Jehovah unto Samuel, saying,
1Sa 15:11 It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king; for he is turned back from following me,

2Sa 7:4 And it came to pass the same night, that the word of Jehovah came unto Nathan, saying,
2Sa 7:5 Go and tell my servant David, Thus saith Jehovah, Shalt thou build me a house for me to dwell in?

Jer 49:34 The word of Jehovah that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying,
Jer 49:35 Thus saith Jehovah of hosts:

1Sa 10:10 And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a band of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came mightily upon him, and he prophesied among them.

1Co 14:29 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.
1Co 14:30 If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.
1Co 14:31 For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.
1Co 14:32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.

Prophecy will equal an audible voice (The Holy Spirit), dream (spiritual, not regular), vision, revelation etc. He will tell you what to say, or, literally speak through you (as in 1Sa 10:10).
