Does fulfilled prophecy make the Bible irrelevant?

Jesus did not put an end to sin

{8} the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil. {9} No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 1 John 3:8-9 (NASB)

{30} Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit. John 19:30 (NASB)
Was the work of Christ finished on the cross or not? :chin

Well, song and apostles creed aside, my stance is that Jesus, which is taken up into heaven, shall come in like manner as he was seen going into heaven.

:thumbsup Can't wait!

Oh, and thanks for the song lyric! I remember singing that in my childhood. I am now going to sing that to my grandbabies!

Fulfilled prophecy makes the Bible relevant because it shows what happened in the past can be used to judge that which is prophesied in the future will happen too. Fulfilled prophecy gives a believer confidence in God's promises.

So if you breathe in oxygen today and that was fulfilled then you can expect to breathe in oxygen tomorrow.

No, because the vast majority of the Bible isn't even about prophecy. I once heard a preacher say, "the Bible isn't a book about destiny: it's about decision."

As long as we have the capacity to make decisions about whether we will obey the word or not, the Bible will continue to be relevant.
22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.
23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror;
24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.
25 But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does. James 1:22-25 (NASB)
In other words, whether prophecy is fulfilled or not, we are still called to be "doers of the word."

I don't see how any body could say that all prophecy has been fullfilled, just look at Damascus for one , Isaiah 17 shows us that Damasacus will be taken away from being a city and will become a ruinous heap, that has not already came to pass, and Damascus still a thriving city and still the capital of Syria today and always has been since the prophecy was given.

Then we see so many things in revelation that have not came to pass.

This belief just blows me away, of course Paul dealt with it too, there were people running around then saying that the day of the Lord had already come.

what would be the motivation to propagate such a lie.
could it be , so that people would not be comforted with the words that were meant to comfort found in 1thess 4:13-18 ?

Point of order...Damascus was turned into a smoldering ruin by the Assyrians at the same time Israel (the northern kingdom) was conquered by them.
{5} Then Rezin king of Syria and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, came up to Jerusalem to make war; and they besieged Ahaz but could not overcome him. {6} At that time Rezin king of Syria captured Elath for Syria, and drove the men of Judah from Elath. Then the Edomites went to Elath, and dwell there to this day. {7} So Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria, saying, "I am your servant and your son. Come up and save me from the hand of the king of Syria and from the hand of the king of Israel, who rise up against me." {8} And Ahaz took the silver and gold that was found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasuries of the king's house, and sent it as a present to the king of Assyria. {9} So the king of Assyria heeded him; for the king of Assyria went up against Damascus and took it, carried its people captive to Kir, and killed Rezin. 2 Kings 16:5-9 (NKJV)

For what it's worth. :thumbsup
